I wouldn't have payed that much if I was just upgrading. I want to get this build done and if I have to pay a premium to expedite the process a little bit then so be it.

Best bang for a build around $1100? Should I go Nvidia or AMD?
Finally doing a build but I'm lost in a sea of hardware.

Yea it can be pretty overwhelming, especially if you dont keep up with whats been coming out. The guys here were a lot of help to me.

An $1100 build calls for a fairly high-end video card in the $400 range, and it's a bad time to buy one. Wait for the GTX 1070 and hope there's enough supply that Newegg and others don't feel compelled to gouge. As far as I know, there are no firm release dates for equivalently performing AMD cards.

For the value per $, the new AMD cards appear to beat the nvidia ones.
This is usually the case, but nVidia is first to market atm. They can charge higher prices but $720 for this chip is a little much. Yes most games are getting a 15-20% boost but isn't enough to justify double the price of GM200-310 (GTX 980 TI). The market will settle down once supplies are meant but right now idk if i'll pay over $600 unless upgrading to 4K, which are very few since most ppl aren't even gaming at 1440.

The GTX 1070 is such an interesting card. For that performance @ $379 is a great entry card for anyone. You get 980 Ti performance for the same price but on the new architecture which is bound to improve with optimization.

Newgg is taking fe model cards that are out of stock on newegg.com for $699 and shunting that stock to an newegg eBay site listing a msrp of $999 and a sale price of $899 all while newegg lists out of stock on every card.

What is the MSRP? I paid $699 on Amazon for one straight from Amazon. No 3rd party sellers as they are at $800+ on Amazon.

$699 for the FE and those were supposed to be the highest price cards. For Strix cards

The GTX 1080 has a price tag of $699. However, the standard version of the Strix will be priced at $619.99 and the higher model will cost $639.99. Customers looking to buy a new gaming GPU should wait another few days as the Strix will hit the shelves on June 4.

Yea I read up on that after I made the post. The FE aren't just for early adopters. Apparently that's what they are calling all reference cards for the entire lifecycle. Wonder why they are $100 more?

Installed a Kraken x61 to my AMD PC since the X61 was basically marketed with the NZXT S340 anyway and well sometimes I cant help myself. Installation was predictably easy as a result.
Got my FX 8300 overclocked to 4.5 with temps hanging around 28 C idle. Debating pushing it further.

Per nvidia, for the "craftsmanship." In other words, frick you, that's why.

Ordered 16GB of the new G Skill Trident Z I posted about a month back, CL14 3200. Slight upgrade from my current CL16 3000.
Had to fill the itch somehow.

Upon further looking I think I'm going to go with the 1070 whenever it's available around $400. Is it bad to start my build and throw my old 760ti in it for the time being? Also would it be possible to salvage my old PSU for the new build or is it better to go new. It's from the Core2Duo days but it's 650 watts, not heavily used.
Newegg
And Newegg has the i7-6700k for $315 right now, should I go ahead and just get that now and build around it? Seems like the CPU to go with from what I have been reading.

Nothing wrong with building now and adding GPU later.
An i7 may put you above budget if you properly account for other parts as well ($400-450 for the video card depending on how much of a hurry you're in to get it, decent SSD, a case that isn't made of plastic or thin as foil, 8-16gb of ram). But if you're OK with that, go for it. Otherwise, I'd recommend the i5 without hesitation.
Reusing the PSU might save a few bucks, but what is the brand and model? Wattage doesn't tell the full story.

650 W should be enough for your PS, but I would be wary of how old the PS is.
For a new build, I would use a brand new one.
The 760Ti should be good enough for most games under medium settings, maybe not 1080p, good able to be playable.
It should hold you over for the time being.
As for your choice of the i7-6700k, if you are just gaming as the primary purpose of your build, you could save money and get a i5-6600k.
Newegg currently has the i5-6600k for $219 plus shipping.

Yeah that's the way I'm looking to go, really just for gaming and light office work.

Not necessarily. I'm still waiting to find out the brand and model. I reuse PSUs for years and years across many upgrades. Yes, capacitors do age and lose some efficiency, but a very small amount, and only if exposed to constant heat.
