You could always do an aesthetic overhaul. Individually sleeved cables, custom loop, full-tower to accommodate the loop, silencing foam, fan controller, whatever. Won't be cheap, but cheaper than a new CPU and mobo maybe, and the aesthetics last from upgrade to upgrade.

I agree with this.

Also would get more out of it than a CPU/MOBO upgrade.

I just checked for updates and had none.

I had this issue for the longest, even automatic updates being disabled didn't help. Don't remember how I fixed it or if it just went away.

I am not as anal as you when it comes to looks, and I am done with water cooling for now. I only care about how my games look and run. Not a shot you have done me right with building.

I've only been that way in recent years. Before my current rig, I did an aesthetic mod on the cheap using a dremel and some dye. Still didn't look as good as what I have now, but it was an improvement over the frankencomputer my rig had turned into from acquiring cheap parts one at a time over the years.

The overhaul was prompted by me getting a second Radeon HD 6950. I cut up the bottom of the case to accommodate another radiator. I figured while I'd already gutted everything, I might as well make an attempt at making it look better, but didn't want to spend much more. I cut off all the PSU cable sleeving and dyed all the cables black. Spray painted the PSU, dyed the tubing black. I also bought new fittings for the tubing.

And then, once you go black...

I love the look of your system and wish I was dedicated enough to do that, but I do not have the confidence, time, or desire to go that far.

Out of curiosity, how audible is that water cooled setup?

I bought a cheap digital sound level meter a while back and measured. My PC is 17db (31db ambient and 48db with the computer on). I measured from about a foot away from the top of the case (it sits on the floor). It's inaudible if the AC is running. It uses 9 gentle typhoon fans, and I have them all running at 1000 rpm at all times.

A lot of really good suggestions, I changed my part list around and you're right, with a 1080 it comes in right under $1700.

17db is really silent, for that many fans.

What case is that?

Does anyone else put their case fans on at full speed to help sleep at night? Silence is deafening for me.

Corsair 900D. Other than it being gigantic, it's not a particularly remarkable case. Gentle Typhoons are just awesome fans. Plus, the case sits on carpeted floor which contributes a lot to the sound dampening. The primary reason I continue to deal with custom water-cooling is for the silence.

I have a portable AC unit in the bedroom to make it super cold in there at night (without freezing the kids out) and create white noise. If I didn't have that, I'd have a sound machine.

Looks like my second monitor just crapped out on me. It will come on and then within a couple seconds it will go to black not displaying any images. Anybody have any ideas? Already checked all the connections

Remember how I used to fully hard tube loops? Fckk that, i'm going with flexible neoprene hoses now. Nothing is worst than trying to tear down and reinstall hard acrylic tubing.

This is about 10months ago after putting blocks on.

The before.. not sure why I though white die would be cool.

Looks better. I think you've talked me out of rigid tubing completely. I'm aiming to reduce the headache associated with teardowns and upgrades. Next will be reducing cost. There's got to be someone willing to make an aesthetically pleasing alternative to full-cover gpu blocks. The challenge is developing a universal solution for watercooling mosfets and vram (mosfets most importantly), and that's pretty much impossible.

How does the neoprene hose compare to standard tygon in terms of kinking, stiffness, etc.? Looks like it would be even easier to work with.

It kinks easier and doesn't have the range as regular tygon. If you are laying out a build its easy to over come this. I used it in an iTX waterbuild inside a Node 304 build years ago.

Edt: It also looks better IMO than any other type of tubing. Has that matte black finish over glossy. Bought it in 2012 to change these out but ended up going to X79, Caselabs and rigid tubing.

Anybody have any monitor suggestions? Thinking about biting the bullet and just getting one of the best ones I can get to last me awhile.

Dude... i'm I have no clue on the issue. We have options out there but truly feel they are much too pricey even for early adopter tech.
