Microsoft adding some features to UWP
they are slowly getting there. At least they are supporting it so far.

AMD CONFIRMS SONY PLAYSTATION NEO BASED ON 14NM CPU AND POLARIS?

Well then, this escalated quickly. PS4.5 gonna be more like PS5 if it's really moving up to Polaris and Zen. Quite a splash for the Zen launch this fall being in a PS5, makes sense.

quote:

The new 14nm FinFET APU consists out of eight x86 ‘Zen Lite’ LP cores at 2.1 GHz (they’re not Jaguar cores, as previously rumored) and a Polaris GPU, operating on 15-20% faster clock than the original PS4.

According to sources in the know, the Polaris for PlayStation Neo is clocked at 911 MHz, up from 800 MHz on the PS4. The number of units should increase from the current 1152. Apparently, we might see a number higher than 1500, and lower than 2560 cores which are physically packed inside the Polaris 10 GPU i.e. Radeon R9 400 Series. Still, the number of units is larger than Polaris 11 (Radeon R7 400 Series), and the memory controller is 256-bit wide, with GDDR5 memory running higher than the current 1.38 GHz QDR. Given the recent developments with 20nm GDDR5 modules, we should see a 1.75 GHz QDR, 7 Gbps clock – resulting in 224 GB/s, almost a 20% boost.

Internally known as PlayStation Neo, the console should make its debut at the Tokyo Game Show, with availability coming as soon as Holiday Season 2016 – in time for the PlayStation VR headset.

Nvidia still doing shitty things

Cliffs: NVidia "Founders Edition" versions of the 1070 and 1080 (price ~$100 more) are nothing more than reference cards built by NVidia. They know that people like me always want the reference design to ensure the widest variety of waterblock choices, unlocked voltage, and modded bios compatibility, so now Nvidia's taking over that market to profit from it.

And at launch time, ONLY the founders edition cards will be available. You know, similar to how reference cards are usually widely available at launch, except exclusivity/false-sense-of-craftsmanship/impulse-buy/omg-nvidia/profit/frick-yeah/profit.

Would someone be kind enough to bottom line this for me, I am thinking of upgrading my 2X970 to a 1080. Is this a worth while jump? I would like to go to a single card solution and get a performance increase.

That's mostly because I am not smart enough to know what most of the stuff means like people here do.

Consider that upgrading from SLI 970s to a single 980 Ti would be close to a lateral move under ideal conditions (i.e., a game where SLI scales properly and you don't encounter a VRAM bottleneck). The 1080 will be ??% faster than a 980 Ti (Maybe 20% on average? Hard to tell until we see legit gaming benchmarks with multiple titles and resolutions).

Don't get the founders edition. I'm sure we'll see the AIB partner cards in June. Or you can wait for big Pascal with HBM2 for a much more substantial upgrade.

EDIT: All this talk about Nvidia... don't forget about AMD's computex uveiling at the end of the month.

Got it, thanks. I am anxious to upgrade and the extra $100 doesn't really bother me, but I will wait until the AMD reveal and/or the AIB cards hit the market.

MrG, if I upgrade I will sell you a 970 for $200 if you are interested.

From my understanding AMD is just releasing lower power consuming mid to low tier cards right now, the 470/480/480X and they are just decently overclocked 300's series power wise, consuming half the power, and a little faster memory.

But also reading they have moved up the Vega10 release to October, which will be a Fury 16GB HBM2 card.

I need opinions on a 1080p gaming monitor. Any advice?

I'm finally getting all the MIR's I sent in for my build 2 months ago and I'm looking to finally get a nice 1080p gaming monitor.

Budget probably is $175ish.
