Windows scaling is still sort of fckked for anything over 35-38". Was looking at the 40" 4K Koreans for a while but W10 still lacks decent scaling for those resolutions at that form factor.

June/July maybe? The new cards will be unveiled/announced at Computex Taipei (May 31-June 4) and probably released shortly after.

MSI processes my RMA really quick.

I should be getting my replacement mboard today from UPS.

Hopefully I can rebuild my pc tonight and get it running again.

I just hope I don't have to wrestle with Microsoft because of my Windows 10 OEM License after replacing the mboard.

Ill try to have some pictures up for yall.

I doubt it, but Windows 10 may be different. There's an unofficial/unpublished rule for how much hardware needs to be changed before Windows no longer sees it as the same computer. I've switched motherboard brands before on a customer build and it did not trigger a reactivation (Windows 7), so I'm assuming that a direct replacement of the same model would be even less likely to cause it. And even if it did, it's an easy process to reactivate (except you'll have to get on the phone with Microsoft, which I guess is kind of annoying).

EDIT: This thread might get entertaining if the idiot keeps posting: LINK

Mantle is dead, but it served its purpose by inspiring the creation of DX12.

Well, I spent a few hours putting this all back together last night and its running pretty well.

I used Artic Silver 5 because I had to remount the CPU heatsink and fan. Temps are slightly 1-2 degrees higher at idle now than when they were when I originally installed the heatsink and fan with stock intel paste, but its still fairly cool at idle (26-27 degrees C). I also have read that Artic Silver might take some time to settle and the temps might be a little higher initially, but I will monitor and figure that out.

I also figured out why my motherboard wasn't reading the CPU fan speed. The wire from the fan itself appears to be cut or the solder is not good enough. The refurbished board MSI sent me isn't reading the CPU fan speed either. Not a big deal, but if the temps do get to be a problem, I will just buy an Evo and throw it on there and that should fix any issues.

I used my original Antec Sonata Case. Really, I probably should've just gone with a new case instead of using a 10+ year old case, but I am sort of attached to it.It is kinda shitty for cable managing stuff and I'll have to redo most of it whenever I get my blu ray drive. I kinda just stuffed most of it in the 5.25 bays.

I think whenever down the road, hopefully this lasts me a while, but whenever I decide to go with a brand new build, I will get a case from Fractal.

Full specs for anyone interested:

Antec Sonata I Case (2003-2004ish)
Intel Core i5-6500 3.2 GHZ CPU (I think I still can OC the base clock on the MSI board; I don't think MSI has patched it up yet, but if I do, the stock heatsink and fan will not do)
MSI z170A SLI Plus refurbished
Kingston HyperX Fury DDR4 2133 MHz 16 GB
Sapphire R9 380 Nitro OC 4 GB (This was sort of a best card for space in the case decision. I don't think this case could handle 10 inch+ cards, even if I remove the 2nd case fan on the HD bay.)
Asus PCE-N53 wireless card (Tons of people have had issues with this, but I constantly get 300 MBPS on my 5 GHz wifi)
Western Digital Blue 1 GB 7200 RPM HDD
Samsung 120 GB 7200 RPM HDD (2003-2004ish; hard drive for my old gaming PC, disconnected in pics)
Rosewell CapstoneM 750 W Power Supply
2 Antec 120 MM smart case fans (2004-2005ish)

Future plans:

Blu Ray Drive
Kingston HyperX m.2 PCI-E x4 SSD (Good SSD and wouldn't require additional cables cluttering the case)
1080p Gaming Monitor

In the pics, the dual fans on the R9 380 aren't running. This is because certain Sapphire Cards have a 0 db cooling solution when temps are low, so the fans don't spin. The card runs fairly cool though, idling at about 41-42 degrees C, and doesn't get above 58-59 degrees C under load. Of course I haven't fully pushed this thing just yet, but it still runs pretty cool.

I bought an Antec full tower around the same time, 2003ish. They were built like tanks. Steel gray interior, front panel door that locked for some reason.

Quirk I discovered is that my DDR4 wasn't running at 1.2V for some reason.

It was running at 1.184V instead. On the mboard that I had before I RMA'd it, it detected my memory and showed it was running at 1.2V.

I had to enable XMP on this board for it to run at the rated 1.2V with 14-14-14-35 timings.

Well guys I am somewhat back. I am currently running my PC in safe mode so I am able to access everything right now. For some stupid arse reason whenever I am not in safe mode my PC doesn't want to boot up. I am not sure why, but I am trying to get it figured out. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know lol.

If you can boot into safe mode only, its most likely a driver issue.

Have you updated any of your drivers recently? I know when I did the Windows 10 upgrade on my laptop, I couldn't boot into Windows because my Windows 8 Graphics Driver was still installed.

I'm still running Windows 7. A buddy of mine thought my GPU went bad so he is letting me borrow his msi n750ti-2gd5/oc. I was running a GeForce GTX 760 OC 2GB GDDR5. Ive been running launch recovery from the boot menu since last night and I'm still sitting at a black screen.

Nvidia will be using Battlefield 5 Friday to debut it's new GPU's.

Some added DICE dev BF5 love/hype:

Honestly don't even care for them yet. Might be a lower end one just for fun but waiting on Big Pascal. Big Arch to New Little Arch shtt which nVidia plays it's not exciting.

Looks like it was fake anyways as AMD Gaming just tweeted out their BF5 reveal info so looks like it'll be AMD used to reveal the game.

Assuming for the DX12 benefits.

We need more of these like Iris Pro w/ eDRAM. I just want a laptop with Iris Pro but they are very few.

LINK

quote:

Intel outs three new processors with ‘Crystal Well’ integrated graphics, eDRAM

quote:

All three processors feature four cores although the Core i7 model is capable of eight threads, while the other two Core i5 chips handle only four. All three have 1MB of L2 cache, a thermal envelope of 65 watts (TDP), 72 execution units, and Iris Pro 580 graphics with 128MB of eDRAM and a GPU frequency between 350MHz and 1,150MHz (only 1,110MHz on the i5-6585R). DDR4-2133/1866 and DDR3L-1600/1333 memory are also supported.

quote:

The new chips also benefit from eDRAM, as it reportedly acts like a DRAM buffer in the Skylake architecture because it sits between the DDR memory and the System Agent. Devices that require memory access through the System Agent, such as PCIe cards, can use the eDRAM for early reads and writes, thus speeding up a number of memory-based scenarios. For PC gamers and digital artists, this setup should speed up their favorite titles and applications when merely using Intel’s integrated graphics.
