Could you throw me something together without the GPU? Or not possible because you aren't sure how much the gpus are gonna be? He doesnt plan on overclocking.
$1300 for tower only?

I know you said he doesn't plan to overclock, but he should do it anyway. Start with this. Add a $550-600 GPU. Flagship GPU might be more than that, but probably wouldn't arrive until end of the year. This summer should bring some decent choices.
Case is just a placeholder.

Any single card options coming out this summer that will be an upgrade to my 2x970's?
Posted on 4/7/16 at 12:42 am to ILikeLSUToo
It's a hard sale trying to convince him to wait. He's on a 550 currently so I understand his position do you think the evga step up program would be a viable option?

Yeah, I understand that. Normally, I'd say don't worry about what's around the corner because there's always something around the corner. However, a switch to HBM2 could be particularly important, if not essential, for high-end single-GPU gaming in 2017.
Then again, those cards may not arrive until the end of this year, with summer 2016 providing a stop-gap solution -- both on the AMD and NVidia side -- in the form of 8GB GDDR5/GDDR5x. But the flagships to follow may not even be within his budget. The step-up program could work, but since the release dates for these cards are still unconfirmed (May-ish, June-ish, July?), he might be taking a risk buying a 980 Ti today, only to discover that the consumer cards are either delayed a few weeks or are sold out on EVGA's site due to high demand, putting him out of the 90-day return period.

Wait for the flagship GP100, probably end of the year.

Is it worth moving from a 6600k to at 6700k?
Posted on 4/7/16 at 11:58 pm to Greace
Not unless the overall budget increases to accommodate 100% of the difference.

What would be my best resource for figuring out how to run a 6x1 eyefinity setup?
Posted on 4/8/16 at 11:54 am to Greace
Just google it alongside the model of your card. Eyefinity/surround has never been a major interest of mine, so I don't have a specific source to point you to.
6x1 doesn't sound pleasant though.

I'm looking at a cheap fix until I can afford a full Intel build. This is better than the 8320 that I have
AMD FX-9590 Vishera 8-Core 4.7 GHz Socket AM3+ 220W FD9590FHHKWOF Desktop
Will it fit my current build?

Remind me again what motherboard you have. I think it's a 970 chipset, in which case, no, that CPU will absolutely not work. It may run, but at reduced speeds, possibly kill your board.

Yea I have the ASrock 970 :(

Samsung has released their first NVMe Driver Update.
Pretty decent write speed increase versus the launch driver in my test...

Driver or Firmware update?
You just keep your OS on it right? Reflashing new firmware becomes a pain. My 840 which holds my Steam library would get an update about every 2-3 weeks at one point, really annoying.

A guy I know is trying to sell me a computer for $250.
I3 Quad Core
8GB
GPU: R9-270x Overclocked Black Edition
worth it?

i3's are not quad cores. They're dual cores with hyperthreading.
Not a bad price for what you get, but it wouldn't accomplish your intended goal of upgrading. Pretty sure your GPU is equal to that one (I forget what you have), and the i3 would be horrible for twitch streaming.

i3 will even hold you back in gaming a ton. You want 4 physical cores for gaming.

Anyone here travels a lot? I've been flying from NO to Dallas twice a week, terminals and airplanes really get me down. I have about 2-3 months left of this routine.
Does flying frequently make anyone else "blue"?
