Fourth for CyberPower.

I got one from BestBuy from $1100 that I would have spent $1500 to build myself. Looks awesome and runs like a dream.

frick. I wish I would’ve checked here earlier. I literally just ordered an Optix MAG241C for $190 and microcenter has it listed for $150.

Oh well. Free two day shipping makes up for it I suppose

I like Xidax PCs a lot. They do everything down to the RGB and the cable sleeves.

I am disgusted by this thread.

The posters in here sound like they purchase their meats at Wal-Mart, clothes at Ross and furniture from Big Lots.

You people are a damn disgrace to the Master Race.

I understand your sentiment, but it's like you can be the guy rebuilding a classic '68 Chevelle SS or you can be the guy that purchases it and takes it to gatherings and enjoys just showing it off.

Both are fine. I envy the guys that have a shop, the time, the tools and experience to rebuild a car, or modify it to make it more awesome, and would love to do it myself. But, I am more than willing and able to purchase what they produce and just enjoy it. Most will tell you that they usually spend way more in rebuilding than they get back on the car, but do it because it's therapeutic for them.

Master Race? Hardly. According to many posts it only takes an hour to build a gaming computer. Of course, if that's true, then how can you be part of a master race if it's as simple as taking a walk around the park?

I bought a cheap pre-built from Newegg last year for around $500. I recently added a 500GB SSD just for gaming because the original SSD was only 120GB. I will likely upgrade the Power Supply and GPU soon. Probably still be under $1000 for a pretty decent machine.

So, I purchased the following system:

NewEgg

It lists at $1389. Caught it on sale discounted by $360 down to $1029.

Comes with an ASRock B550AM motherboard, Ryzen 7 3700 CPU, AMD Radeon RX 5700 PCIe4 GPU, Win 10 Home, 16GB 3000MHz Ram, 240G SSD, 2TB HD, Wi-Fi, Digital 7 channel audio, 600w power, Ryzen's cooler, keyboard and mouse.

Will use the components for a while, eventually upgrade the Ram to 32 MB 3400MHz or 3600MHz, upgrade eventually to a higher quality power supply, upgrade to a liquid cooler, maybe change out to some less noisy fans, might even upgrade the motherboard after a while, but definitely will improve the internal wiring. This should be a decent system for a 14 year old to start from and learn to upgrade on before turning him loose to build one from scratch.

Besides, the best I could come up with in cost was about $200 over this price just purchasing the parts alone, not including the OS.

All of this is completely unnecessary. Why would you upgrade to more RAM that will never be touched in the first place? Get rid of that POS 2tb hard drive that comes with that machine and go to a lone 2tb SSD for the first upgrade

Actually upgrade something that will improve the machine

Thanks for the advice. Is the cost/performance of NVME worth it compared to a SATA 3 version? I have a PCI-e 3 open slot and an M.2 slot. Is either better?

*it was more about him getting his hands in it and making these changes on his own to develop a comfort level in building. But I understand your point in actual improvements.

He also is going to be taking graphics design classes and Autocad at his school and that's also part of this system's use. Any other recommendations? His interest is in aerospace engineering design and 3D modeling.

As someone who recently went from a 1tb sata3 to 2tb nvme (around 6 months ago), I dont notice the difference
