I love in that article how the lawyer says finding ways to use in-game content in your $60 purchase to avoid paying even more money through microtransactions could be considered theft.

The worst part about it all is that we all saw the writing on the wall.

When it was announced they hinted at great things with glass box and a short time later they began to start back tracking and saying this game is gonna pave the way to a future simcity. Right now the game will be small but soon it will be good. It's gonna have drm but only because we want to keep out the bad pirates. Trust us its all gonna pay off. Subways may not be here now but I promise in 6 months you can have them for a very cheap 10 dollars thanks to the generous help of Subway and Jared.

We promise that cities will
Be bigger in the coming months for a small fee.

The problem is hoping for EA to do worse isn't going to improve the situation for gamers any. If EA completely goes under another publisher will just slide in to fill the void. Likewise, if their profits continue to decline they're only going to look for more and more ways to separate you from your money. First it's microtransactions. Down the road, more and more locked content to squeeze more cash out of you.

I can't imagine a scenario where they recognize how borderline exploitative their business model is and take steps to correct it.

I didn't even buy any DLC for the Mass Effect series. I seriously doubt I'll buy DLC for SimCity.

youll have to if you want a proper functioning city. subways etc will be released via dlc or expansion pack.

ME dlc content was just cosmetic stuff and a few side missions that were non critical to the game

Um...no. In ME2 the Shadow Broker DLC was part of the main story in ME3. Even if you didn't buy the DLC, Liara was still the Shadow Broker in ME3.

in other words, it was non-essential to the story. she was the SB regardless. thanks for making my point for me.

How is you not not even knowing the shadow broker has anything to do with the story going to your lover/best friend BEING the shadow broker from one game to the next not essential to the story? For people who didn't get the DLC, they were completely lost when Liara started talking about being the Shadow Broker. I had to go look up the plot of the DLC just to understand how everything even happened. That, to me, makes it essential. When there are plot holes if you don't get certain DLC, that's an issue.

because she is the SB regardless if you did the mission or not.
an example of it being critical to the story would be if she was NOT the SB had you failed to purchase and complete the DLC

how is this hard for you to understand?

Completely missing out on major plot points in a story driving game is a pretty big deal.

EA's stock fell some today. Not much, but every little bit hurts. Scruffy is so very happy.

nothing will really teach EA other than gamers simply not buying games.
eta: an awful lot of people tried to warn gamers this would happen with SC, but the didnt want to listen. here is an open letter to EA from PC Mag.
quote:

I don't want to gloat. I want you to understand why this happened, and how you can prevent it from happening in the future. When concerns are raised over "online features," listen to them. When people warn you months in advance that there will be server issues, listen to them. When gamers worry that they won't be able to play SimCity years from now (when every SimCity game from the Super Nintendo version to Simcity 4 remains playable and enjoyable), listen to them. Turn away from your paranoia regarding piracy and realize that there are tons of customers who want to give you money in exchange for being able to play a game. Appreciate the value of customer loyalty and developing a community instead of squeezing every last drop out of people and discarding them.

Exactly. Here's to hoping people stop.

The problem is that they put out games like Battlefield and that supports the rest of the shite they release.
