This doesn't look good for Sony. Too much of their income is from $60 game sales. They don't want to give that up yet.

However, they will have no choice but to make their exclusives available from day one.

Otherwise, people will just buy an Xbox and get Game Pass to go with it.

At first I had no interest in Game Pass, but my son loves it. He thanks me for it almost every day. It blows his mind. So I'm going to have to keep it now.

I’m theoretically interested in their streaming option, but I can’t imagine I’ll be willing to live with the necessary compromises. But we’ll see.

i wonder if the streaming option is due to hardware limitations. it's not like the PS1-PS4 ran on windows or anything.

i remember the PS3 "being a nightmare to develop for" back in the day. that's probably why you can't download them. it'd be nice if you could at least stream the games you bought back then though.

I have the fastest tier internet Cox can provide in my area and Sony's streaming service ran like shite.

Streaming games on Game Pass seems to work ok, but I only use it to clear Microsoft Rewards quests. Outside of games like Slay the Spire that are turned based and aren't graphically complex, it is really hit or miss on if it's a good option for playing a game all the way through. Sometimes it works ok, sometimes it's crap.

I don't think that technology has advanced to a point to make that "Premium" tier viable yet, but maybe they've figured out a way to make it work.

Only Amazon can rival Microsoft in the cloud space and it is a healthy discussion on who #1 really is.

Sony cannot compete against this currently though

We just hooked up a nice 10GB pipe to Azure in my office, guess I will fire up xCloud here to play

fact that you can buy a year at a time at half the price us huge.

You can only buy Gamepass 3 months at a time.

Sometimes it's like this and other times it's fairly smooth. I wouldn't say it's ever as good as playing the game straight from a disc or straight from downloaded to your console, but sometimes it's close.

ETA: Like I said, I mostly just use it to clear Microsoft Rewards quests, but sometimes it won't even load certain games and then I have to download them to clear the quest anyway.

You can still buy 36 months worth of Gold membership and upgrade to Gamepass Ultimate for $1.00. It ends up being about $5.00 a month. I dont know when that party will end but I've been using that method for a while now.

In all honesty, I have PS+ now and I guess that is basically what essentials is going to be. Didn't see anything that makes me want to pay more than I'm currently paying. Seems like they just made a big to do about nothing IMO>

I think this is good deal for 1st time PS owners or those that haven't played a lot of the great exclusives. Whats great about Game Pass is access to not only 1st party games on day one but the plethora of really good indie and mid tier AA games that other wise may get overlooked. Hopefully Sony can do the same.

If they put the FF13 trilogy on there I’ll try it just for that. Unless you have a ps3 those games are basically impossible to play. You can play lightning returns fine on steam but part 1 and 2 are the worst ports I’ve ever played especially 2.
