So I just bought the game and love it so far. Just completed the mission where you run into the Wild Hunt while looking for the elven mage with your witch friend...Well last night I had a dream the Hunt came into my house looking for me. I was hiding in the shower and could see the guy in the bathroom just toying with me..finally he ripped back the curtain and stood over me with some weird light and inching closer to kill me..

I told myself "okay it's a dream wake up this is getting scary" tried to wake up and kinda felt myself open my eyes but I still couldn't tell if it was real or not because I could still see a dark shadow over me with a light pointing at me...Finally my eyes cleared up and it was the lamp on my night stand "towering over me" and it was the sun coming through the blinds that was blinding me...My heart was pounding haha...I hate when you can't tell if you're still in a nightmare or really awake

So I'm currently level 6 and I feel like it's time for me to stop wasting my points and really dedicate to a certain style of play. With that said, what armor/attributes do you recommend upgrading?

I've currently been doing the Light armor/fast attach upgrades, but I really struggle with the bosses so I'm questioning my decision and think I may need heavier armor to absorb the blows

All builds in this game are viable, it's just a matter of finding what signs work well with your build. You can be exploring an area doing just find then run into a mob that is WAY beyond your level, you just have to note it and come back later for revenge.

I dedicated literally every single character point to attacking and magic and never had any issues.

Yes I did.

I honestly used bombs maybe twice, apart from the numerous times you have to use them to blow up monster nests.

I typically only used magic and my swords.

Only time I had to use bombs other than nests was the first werewolf. The bomb makes it much easier to kill since at the time i couldn't do enough damage to offset his healing power.

I'm at level 27 and have 0 points in alchemy. Invest in both light and strong attacks. As for signs, go for quen, igni, and axii. On the last page and I have the strong back perk because I like to carry a lot of junk but that's just me. The one that makes your food last 20 minutes is really helpful too.

You need to use alchemy, that is how you make Geralt OP. I also feel like you should ether go Quick or Strong, not both. They don't parley off each other well until Advanced Mutations in W&B.

Edt: Alchemy is not about the bombs but the bonuses for potions and mutagens. Will post a screenshot of my builds tonight.

Not sure I follow here.

I used both plenty and had zero issues.

Other than Swallow, I never used another potion in the game apart from the random one's to see inside of a dark cave or to breathe longer.

Granted, when I beat Blood and Wine with my full playthrough Geralt, I had 17 character points I couldn't even assign

Yeah you can play multiple ways, you can use a build which is in your play style which is effective.

Why do you think what I stated about wasting on both Strong and Quick attacks would give issues? Its a matter of getting the most out of your character, nothing about it being wrong.

Are you not on Death March or NG+? A lot of encounters you almost need potions.

Edt: Again make a build which benefits your play style. If you are good at evading and want to make the most out of a great combat system, alchemy allows you to deliver high amounts of damage without being a glass canon.

I've always relied more on weapon attacks and brute strength than magic when I play rpgs. I use the best witcher gear for my level and do a bunch of side quests in between main story missions so that when I get back into the story I'm a few levels higher than recommended. I'm also playing on normal difficulty.

I just wish we had more slots we could use for skills.

I would like some of the general skills but don't want to waste a slot.

Only one I use for General is the CAT School bonus but it would be nice to use some others but it isn't worth losing a slot for combat, alchemy or magic.

I am on Death March on still my first play through.

The difficulty was almost never an issue in the game apart from White Orchard of all places for some reason.

I probably switched the difficulty to the hard one, I think it's like "Blood and Broken Bones" or something like that, 5-6 times throughout the game if I got stuck somewhere and needed to come out on top.

Also wish you didn't need to use a slot for each level of a skill. If I have level 3 slotted. That should include level 1 & 2.

Alchemy on death March ng+ is so OP. Just silly. Too much fun

But for normal and not ng, new players won't have all the superior oils, potions, and good decoctions

Use the red skill 'flood of anger'.

Get to use a max level sign with all bonuses

Yep.

I do have a igni build but wasting upgrade points in signs when u get flood of anger is a waste.

I think Coyote has talked me into trying that when I start my NG+.

May as well go a different route than I did the first.
