I've had extreme insomnia lately. Started a pure thief/archer last night about 1 am. Had him level 22 by 8am

Try using Clairvoyance if you're lost.

Is it necessary to have played the other Elder Scrolls games to fully enjoy Skyrim?

Same here.
It's taken out a huge chunk of my social time.
I blame DoUrden for making this game sound so cool.

So I just popped it in, haven't started yet. Should I expect divorce and losing my job as a result of this game?

if your wife is gonna divorce you over a video game, you probably need a better wife anyway

Totally random question, but is anyone else having extreme horse problems?
By extreme horse problems, I mean that when I first started the game, I actually thought they may have made them invincible. Thing was a beast. Would help take down enemies and take lots nd lots of hits. Seemed a lot tougher than the Oblivion horses.
Now, I'm at level 39. As far as I am aware, the monsters don't level up with you, right? Just whatever new area you enter is set at whatever level you are when you entered it, right?
Because in the last week, I have now had four horses die (all either Whiterun or Windhelm-bred, if that makes any difference). And I don't mean, got owned by a frost troll and died or a dragon swooped down and ate them... you know, completely legit horse deaths.
No, I mean, I get off my horse to kill a wolf that is annoying me. Wolf gets literally two bites on my horse... horse dies. Seriously? When my very first horse out of Whiterun seemed to take as much punishment as Rocky Balboa and come out a champion?
Does not compute. Did horses get nerfed in the latest patch or something? Or do you just reach a certain level and have no hope of ever keeping another horse alive?
I know, I know, I could join the Dark Brotherhood and get Shadowmere the Invincible Tank. But this is my "good" character, so she's having to roll with the store-boughts.
Also, completely random, but stumbled upon Azura's broken Star whilst out adventuring. Took it to her shrine and now have to fight some dude's soul residing in it. Kicked my butt quicker than anything, even down on easy. Thinking I might better start learning enchanting and getting some resistance put on my armor now.

The Azura star is tough. Some mage resistance goes a long way to winning that battle or there is a spot you can sort of get the monsters stuck on the other side and you can snipe them.
Horses blow. I refuse to use them. I love how they die from falling about 3 feet.
I started working on enchanting and smithing yesterday because my mage has been getting his teeth kicked in by everything but rabbits.

I started working hard on smithing about 10-15 levels back. Iron daggers FTW. I am at, I think, about level 93 or 94 in smithing, so very close to putting all those dragon bones I've been hoarding away to good use.
Any advice on enchanting? It seems like you can only learn enchantments by dismantling enchanted items at an Arcane Enchanter... is that right, or am I missing something horrendously obvious? Would definitely like to get some magic resistance and/or fire resistance enchantments, but I don't think I've run across even one magic resistant item for me to take apart.

I seem to always run across boots that are frost resistant. I just need to get my enchanting up so that when I enchant an item it can have some bad arse enchantment.

Horses are awful, I've never bought one for any of my characters. Shadowmere is the only horse worth having.

to beat the mage in azura's star, I kept pressing x or o to get out of the dialogue as quickly as I could, and then you have about a second to shout with ice form and freeze his arse right there. I did that and melee'd him to death before his boys, who are much stronger btw, could kill me. after he is dead you are still stuck in the star for a couple seconds, and I managed to kill one of his daedra to get their hearts before I was transported back to skyrim.

An excellent Skyrim mod.
My internet has been fricked up for a week and a half so not much downloading for me and I have a back log of steam sale games to download too.
It's so bad that while my parents are out of town I packed up my computer put my dog in the car and drove an hour away to their house so I could play SWtoR this weekend.
