I actually use both. I shouldn't bc it takes up a slot that I could use for an additional ability but they are both so cool. Firestorm is awesome though. Making it rain asteroids is pretty satisfying.

Reload your save before the fight and kill the dragon again and it should unlock. I had the same problem.

Put 105 hours into a Mage on normal.
Put about 100 hours into an assassin on hard.
Now I am going to try out nightmare and then I am done with the game.

I finished the game on Christmas Day with an assassin rogue. I started a Mage and I can not decide what tree to go through. Fire for the damage, ice for the slows? I just love freezing mobs in place. I'm torn.

By the end of my mage run, I had the skills pretty diversified.
Winter's grasp and fade step were essentials for my KE mage. I had immolation on fire. Chain lightning and lightning bolt with alot of passive abilities. Enough Spirit spells to keep my barrier up.
Then filled out the rest with knight Enchanter skills.
I filled it out in order to achieve the most potential for combos as possible, while keeping enough variety to attack any elemental enemy.

Yes, but the Nightmare run is probably going to take me MUCH longer than the other runs.
Heck, I got killed in the opening trying to shut the big rift.
Tip for nightmare.
Crafting matters.
Even crappy crafting.
Remember, those early blue items you get sometimes have a requirement WAY over your level.
Crafted items have no level requirement.
With Drakestone and Iron I just jumped up Cassandra from armor 45 to 95 and her weapon went from 45 to 108.
All those low level schematics become way more important so you can upgrade you party much sooner.
The Hinterlands haven't been too bad so far but there are lots more roving mobs to kill which is good because they drop craftable material.
