Byf said the story was extremely disappointing. That is a huge bummer because I was planning on coming back for the story primarily.

Is it really that bad?

My only problem is we kind of get these new characters that arent just reskinned baddies and they end up looking like some weird character from 300 if 300 was about warrior transexuals.

I spoiled it for myself watching Byf's review with spoilers. Super disappointing analysis, sounds like the story is a disaster. I'll probably still play, but damn this is a huge downer.

If you mixed a Spartan with a Cenobite, that would be our new comrades.

I’m halfway through the campaign and even from the first initial load screen I thought something felt off. Load screen looked like something from a cheap 80s sci-fi movie and honestly so does Neumona. We haven’t gotten any explanation on how this city has been chilling here undetected, the new characters are cheesy as frick and all the guns are reskins. You have to walk across the plains of Central Asia to talk to Osiris and then the city itself seems half-assed. Idk how the went from Witch Queen to this but then again this is Bungie and the one thing they have consistently done is oversell with Destiny. I’ll still play the game but i really don’t see myself putting in the time like I used to. The grind has gotten old and I have no fricking clue how the new guardian ranking system works. How the hell has gambit not gotten a single new map and pvp only got one? If they felt rushed they should have done a long final season like they did before Witch Queen so that everything can be where it should be.

Light fall was the end. Bungie realized they needed more time so they Infinity War'd Light fall into Light fall and Final Shape. Which is fine, if you fricking explain the story. I'm a Destiny lore nerd and I still have a hard time explaining this shite sandwich. It was HORRIBLE execution. Now we know why the advertising and hype machine was in full send mode.

Strand is so obviously a cast away from witch queen. What a fricking joke.

Same, which is why I'm so disappointed with this. I was expecting the first big final reveal.

The story part doesn’t bother me much. It’s pretty terrible. But I play it because imo it’s the best shooter on the consoles.

But I’m really not liking strand.

And some of the weapons I’m getting dropped are exact ones I already have just higher level. So that’s been pretty underwhelming.

frick that small room with the two Tormentors. I hated my life trying to get that.

With that said, what triggers the tormentors being immune? I can't seem to get a pattern on that.

Yea that room absolutely sucked. I've not figured them out either other than their crit spot. Seems they are immune everywhere else until you damage it enough.

the end of that mission I tried a few times and called it a night. Whenever the two tanks would pop up and you need strand to destroy the relay, i'd get one tank down and then just instantly get blasted by the other. Super frustrating. So many areas they make just artificially more difficult that cause some really cheap wipes if you are running solo.

The tough thing is that other players may be on a different mission than you, except for Dev, who has probably completed the campaign on all characters already.

They mention a scaling of enemies and difficulty if you have more players. Has anyone tried solo vs with a fireteam? Does the scaling make a big difference? I may want to search for a couple of people to finish out the campaign with.

I've finished the campaign on one character and ran the first week of seasonal missions.

I'm slacking. I'll probably play tonight.

They updated the scaling with Witch Queen I believe. It definitely makes a difference, and i'm sure with the beefier things now, even more so. Running solo isn't awful and sometime actually makes a few things easier, and I'm just doing it to get a solo clear. It is just the frustration of areas that cause numerous wipes from either clunky mechanics/level design or just the god tier tank snipe from across the map that wouldn't be a wipe in a fireteam. The big circular room where the cabal and taken keep spawning as you try and shut down the veil, was very frustrating. In strand super and melee whiffs on an enemy, and i'm instantly off a platform falling into the abyss, unable to do anything. It seems like they've gone out of there way to make combat areas significantly smaller for this campaign, to artificially increase the difficulty.

Most of the encounters haven't been too bad, other than enemies just being bullet sponges, especially the tormentors. Always basically comes down to just using primary on them and dodging because there are no more adds to get heavy ammo from since they take so damn long to kill.

Maybe, but it actually says it on the screen prior to starting. I may have not noticed it before.

In that one room I spoke of earlier, I would throw my arcstrider at them when they spawn. The first death, I didn't notice that they were immune and just kept trying. The second one, I noticed the "immunes" popping up. The third try, I waited a few beats, hit them with primary to see the markers, the staffed them. I was able to finish that one.

Last point....I"m using Arcstrider with Assassin's Cowl. I can clear adds like crazy, but I have to play really close. This is an issue for beefier enemies. What is a good build for hunter to finish off the campaign? I'll be starting chapter 2 tonight.

Finally coming up for air. Campaign was a little weak especially compared to WQ. I think some of the exotic quests after make up for it, though.
I stayed away from strand for the campaign as we had an all void squad and a couple of collective obligations rolling. Now though I’m all in on strand, having a lot of fun with the new titan exotic legs.

I haven’t played hunter in ages, so can’t help you out much on builds for them.

Synthoceps bonk Titan is really strong. Put on the volatile flow artifact mod and use a void smg or something. I have one with repulsed brace on it, so basically, kill with hammers or nades, volatile rounds on my smg and kills with the smg give me overshield. It’s nuts.

That’s pretty much what I am running - soloed legend on it, now I am kinda out of things to do. The game feels really empty for vet players now

Jesus I hate the tormentors. On the final boss battle and just keep getting suppressed and knocked off a ledge. They have so much damn health it is absurd.
