I've only gotten to Farron Keep and killed Abyss Watchers. This game has way more bonfires it seems like, which I think lowers the difficulty level.

I remember playing Dark Souls 1 dreading every corner bc I was on my last estus and praying for the bonfire bc it seemed so long ago that I left the last one.

Anyone else feel this way? I'm loving this game but just a thought.

Not until the Cleansing Chapel/Cathedral of the deep section.

Was me last night before quitting. I'm sure I'll knock it out quickly tonight, but I was pretty damn frustrated.

There are a few too many, including a couple of nonsensical ones late game.

Is this game like the rest in that you can only co-op with people at a similar level

Yes, but only for like random people. It is +10 or -10 soul levels. But, if you use the "password" option in your network settings to connect with friends, you can play with anyone. But, if the person being summoned is more than +10 soul levels OR if their weapon is more upgraded than the host's, the game will scale the damage and stats down slightly to match that of the host.

The road of sacrifices/farron Keep area is by far the largest area in the game and it is stacked with bonfires. You will be begging for more soon, in areas like the cathedral of the deep.

Just beat the abyss watcher... Pretty sure he is now my favorite boss in any bloodsouls game. Just wow, absolute perfect execution of "get better with experience and death" ... Was, just,

It's one of the best in the game. Beautiful score, too.

I wish there would've been more. Have like a 5 on 5 fight then the ultimate watcher fight. I may have just killed them too fast

The Road of Sacrifice probably has the most ridiculous grouping. You get one bonefire then a bit of trash and one hard fight before the second. After that there are only like 4 somewhat relevant mobs before the next bonfire.

Also the last required area was a pretty big let down compared to its DS1 equivalent.

The boss I was bitching about is optional FWIW.

I fricked up the questline for the alternate ending. So goddamn annoying. I think I'm just done after I get it.

Thanks for posting that.

One thing I noticed is that you just ran past some mobs that spawned. Is one of the tenants of a DS game that you just run through at times, so as not to get ground down by the time you get to a boss?

I've been going mob at a time, grinding through and find that by the time I reach bosses, I tend to be low on health/flasks etc.

So I have to share my PVP experience from last night. I don't PVP often, so it was pretty damn fun(ny) for me.

I'm summoned into the Cathedral of the Deep Chapel as a Blue Sentinal and the host is just chilling in the corner taking a nap. That's cool. I understand what he's doing, so I activate a white branch and start chilling.

The phantom comes into the chapel but completely misses the host in the corner and runs off. A few minutes of waiting and the host wants to go hunt him down. We end up fighting the guy on the balcony where the giant can smash you. GREAT for him, BAD for us! He's beating our arse and we end up separated with me running farther into the cathedral and losing both the host and phantom.

I wandered for probably 5 minutes before running away from the black knight back towards the chapel looking for either one. Mind you, no one had been fighting this entire time. Health bars were all stable. As soon as I come down the elevator and turn to go in the chapel, the red phantom is in the doorway, bowing to the host, back completely exposed to me.

He never even got to take a swing and the host just watched. One backstab, tried to run, two backstab, dead.

Ya'll have probably done this 100 timed, but DS2 was my only other souls experience, so this kind of long, drawn out PVP wasn't something I did very often at all. So this was cool as shite for me. Even more so b/c I don't think we could have beat him straight up 2V1.

This game is great. That is all.

Yes it certainly is. If you know exactly where the boss room is from the bonfire you start at and you are focusing on taking out the boss, there is no need to fight huge groups of mobs on the way. One or two you cant avoid? Sure.

as music said.. yes, that's very normal: don't worry about regular mobs when you are fighting a boss. I always clear an area completely, that's one of the things I do; but I only do that to make sure I don't miss any items and to explore the area completely once I come to a new place

When it's go time: I want to get to that boss with as little healing as possible and full strength to take him down, whatever that takes.

(one of the things that made the smelter demon in ds2 hard for me, was the freakishly long trip to his boss room)

Thanks again guys, that makes sense.

I always assumed most mobs would end up "leashing" to me and then eventually show up and pound me en masse if I did that.

Most mobs back off when you get in proximity to a fog door

and if you are talking from a lore standpoint: most of the bosses in these games are the "leaders" of the area that keep the undead at bay... so it makes sense that the mobs in the area would stay away from the "leader" that puts them in their place.

No mobs can't enter a boss fight, so you are safe on that. There are certain mobs it is smarter to kill on the way due to the possibility to them just going ham on while running though.
