Hit his front arms, not his legs. He'll take quite a bit of damage and you can stagger him and do a visceral.

They're used to get the real ending.
You can upgrade it before going to NG+; get it to +10 if you haven't already found, used the blood rock.

Just walked aimlessly into the Shadow of Yharnam fight. It wasn't too bad after that annoying fire caster was dead.

There's frenzy and poison around every corner. Make sure you have plenty of antidote and sedative

Haven't had a chance to play for about a week until last night. Got on to fight the Shadow of Yharnam and dropped him easy this time.
Focused on the sword guy first, then sword/fire guy, then fire guy. Made it real easy.

I killed the nightmare frontier boss dude... I have 1 umbilical cord from iosefka, I know I get one from beating a boss, but how do I get the third? I don't want to frick it up... Have I gone too far to get the third piece?

No. You can get another from Arianna, the slore NPC, one from the abandoned workshop and after you beat Mergo.
There's four in total, you only need three.
