How To Make 'Bloodborne' Feel Slightly Less Impossible
quote:
I’ve nervously recommended Bloodborne to a lot of readers over the past week or so, ones who were worried that their lack of history with Souls games would prevent them from enjoying it. Given that I was in the same boat, and now nearly 40 hours later, it’s one of the best games I’ve played in years, I figured I should advise that others should give it the same chance I did.
Through my own experience, what I’ve actually found as time goes on is that while the game is certainly never “easy,” it certainly does get more manageable and methodical as time goes on. For me, the first few hours were the most frustrating by far, but after that, you sort of settle into a rhythm and are able to make consistent progress at a much more brisk pace once you learn how the game operates, and your own limitations.
?
I figured it would be wise to write a post that teaches a few lessons to my fellow Bloodborne virgins about what to expect as time goes on with the game. Not in terms of spoiling content, but just some of the insight (hah) I’ve gained along the way. Perhaps this would be better coming from a Souls veteran, but at least you can find comfort in knowing that I’m in the same boat as you.
The First Area of the Game is Designed to Break You

The first area after Rom is pretty tough. The pace really speeds up. You really can't stop because unlike earlier in the game, enemies start re-spawning after a short bit. It's really a pain trying to decide where to go next and then 3 enemies come up from behind you.

Anyone killed the gunner guy? How if so?

I did tonight, when you get to him just knock him off the ledge. Then restart the game and the loot will be at the edge of the tower. P.s. It was a bitch getting to him, I fell a few times, and he shot me a few times. Also hate that those little werewolves love to jump out at you from every which way when you are playing the game late at night, almost had a heart attack when on of the things smashed through the door to the side of me.

Man this game has so much depth to it. Watched some guy fight this wizard boss and got to this cool place. Didn't want to see too much tho

Game beaten. Love the end bosses.

This game makes you jump for sure. I normally hate games like that but I'm still liking this.

Kill the Witch with the bell, she is at the bottom of the stairs and respawns the enemies. I typically draw them all down there kill the first wave then take her out.
I'm just a little further, haven't been able to play the last two days.

Driving home from school I see a big black dead animal on the side of the road, my first thought was it being a giant crow or raven haha.

You remind me of the guy who asked if dark souls had skeletons, as if the basis for his buying the game was built around the skeletons

This is good info. I thought it was a bit strange the enemies respawned in that area. I was like, damn, as if this game wasn't hard enough

Started NG+ and blasted through Cleric and Father G.
Being a fan of Lovecraft, I love the lore in this game, more so than in Demon's and Dark Souls. They all share the same themes - the inevitable degradation of the flesh, the trivial nature of existence and having to try and pick up the pieces after attempting to further mankind.
I was already prepared to love this game, but then it turns into blatant Lovecraftian cosmic horror, which I absolutely wasn't expecting but made my nipples really hard.

What do you keep in NG+? skill levels? items?
Posted on 4/2/15 at 3:02 pm to Mr Gardoki
Everything, besides the obvious - keys and the like.

How do you know so much about the lore? I'm assuming you've read some outside material or it reveals some at the end game? Right now I'm just stabbing stuff and trying not to get stabbed.

Like the Souls games, you get it piecemeal throughout. They come mostly from item descriptions and notes in BB. It never gets explicit, but more is revealed by end-game, more so than in Souls.

A lot of lore is covered in all the item descriptions.
