Not that I don't want 2 rigs, but what do you use a backup for?

A back up, and I often run two or three instances of games.
Anyway, like I listed already we have 5 rigs inside the house counting the HTPC(because it came play most game on high settings) and not counting MBPs.
Like DoUrden said, you use your backup when you are working on your main. I like to upgrade.. a ton, so always like have 1-2 backups with good GPUs in them.
Have 1 with a 650Ti and other with 7950. Then there is my steambox with a 5800K. You will see, you will need a back up righ.

I'm looking into building a super cheap windows 8 build so I can play civ 5 on a touch screen monitor

Something I would never think of or want to do.

Holy hell, that sounds awesome.
My summer might be dedicated to a Civ5 touchscreen table top build.
Blue you are a genius!

The monitors are so damn expensive though... cheapest on newegg is some bullshite 9" touchscreen for $169
Coyote, ever had experience with the asus xonar dg? Linus seemed to like it in his unboxing video

going to post this here as the defacto epeening thread for now. Got the new fans in from coyote today and put them in today. Also took notice of the god awful cable management I did upon initial build and spent like 45 minutes trying to get it a little better.
This was when I built the damn thing in august. Since then, I rmaed the PSU and bought a less expensive and more powerful thermaltake, ruined the motherboard and replaced it with an extreme 4, ran the cpu cable behind the board, moved fans around, etc.
this is it now. took out 2 CM LED fans and am giving them to gardoki and replaced them with the corsair AF140 quiet editions which are noticeably quieter and move more air.
now for some cable management shots
this still looks bad (and out of focus) but i assure you guys everything is tied down and it is a HELL of a lot better than it was. Before this everything was just jammed in behind the tray. Next I plan on individually sleeving my psu cables with white mdpc which should allow some tighter turns especially on the gpu and 24 pin which should look better. small improvements. also on the lookout for a good deal on an evga 670 or 680 SC with 4gb of vram for potentially moving to 1440.
big thanks to coyote for this mousepad which he also sent me. Thing is slick and tracks a lot better than my shitty laminate desk top.
as it stands. Please ignore the rats nest of cables behind my monitor. Cluttered by old speakers and a crossover cable.

Looks good, most of you high end builders are so far beyond the rest of us that we think it looks perfect. I quit using a mouse pad years ago as it limits my movement range though, but I don't spend big dollars on stuff like a gaming desk.

I do not consider myself high end. some of the things I bought initially were more expensive but what I have now is really much more affordable than when I bought it. I messed up a perfectly good to possibly defective asus mobo that was 220 dollars at the time, my case is now 60-80 dollars as opposed to the 120 i paid for it, i could've gotten a better psu like a seasonic nowadays for what I paid for my thermaltake, the nh-d14 is no longer the top dog in cpu cooling, etc. You learn as you go along and I don't really regret anything, besides ruining that goddamn mobo.

I have an asrock z77 in the same shape, but I don't think I did it, since it wouldn't power up from the start hence my newegg boycott. I will drive to KC to Micro Center for my next build.

see thats the thing. Mine ran fine for a week and then wouldn't do anything. More likely, it was the PSU, but if I was going to RMA one I would RMA the other. Ended up bending a pin putting the socket cover on and newegg told me to eff off. Next time I want to buy a higher end board I will buy MSI or gigabyte.

Yeah, I am done with newegg for sensitive components.

Buy from amazon and you won't have any problems
I buy my mobos and video cards from there and everything else from newegg

the more I look at the pics I posted the more I notice the god awful rainbow cables. Motivating me to do the sleeving.

Looks good. You say your cable management isn't great but at least it is all on the back side and not blocking airflow.
What happened with the mobo? shorted it because of the psu?

possibly, but my psu seemed to pass the revered paper clip test. it was a long time ago and I've kind of blocked it out of my mind so I don't have to think about the 200 dollar paperweight I have buried in my computer box. I find it freaking amazing that there are no parts on it that can be reused, refurbished, or recycled. It seems so retarded to just throw it out.
btw gardoki I will ship you those fans on wednesday hopefully.

Do you still happen to have that ax850 with black sleeved cables?
If you do, would you be up for selling them and trading my nonsleeved ax850 cables? I'm going for a blacked out look with this build and I don't feel like resleeving my power supply...

Do you have low profile memory? That heat sink is massive so I just assume so. Also I find it interesting you have quieter fans now, I can't even hear my case fans over my cpu/gpu fans.

I have the Asus Xonar Essence STx but I wouldn't buy the dg. There are better options for external amps.
I can link a few today when I get home.
