I got it as a byproduct of my kids getting the Animal Crossing expansion, as it was cheaper to do this for the whole family than buy the expansion for each of them.
NES and SNES are covered by regular Switch Online and are pretty decent in title selection as well as “special” versions of games which are skipped to a certain point or are a special level of difficulty.
Genesis games are good in general but a mixed bag if you already have the Sega Genesis Collection cartridge.
The best titles which are exclusives to the online expansion are titles like MUSHA and Alien Soldier which have a big cult following and are expensive as hell to buy in physical format.
I haven’t played much of the N64 stuff but there has been a lot of bitching about the quality of the emulation on some games.
TLDR - I wouldn’t get the expansion with the classic games as the selling point.
Getting it to get the Animal Crossing expansion, the additional Mario Kart tracks, etc, is a better idea with the games as lagniappe.

Don’t.
Get ANY modern PC, emulators, ROMs, USB adapters, and original controllers.
Can play every single classic console.

They just added the Splatoon 2 Octo Expansion to the perks, as well.
They seem to be putting in a few games of each type every couple of months. There's a rumor that Game Boy Advance emulation is coming, too.
Obviously, the GameCube is on the horizon, as Wind Waker has no way of being played on the Switch, now. Ditto for Twilight Princess, although a quick search yields results from the last week saying that a WW/TP double pack is coming for Switch.

100%.
If you want to cut out the middleman and have an older Switch (you can use Google to determine if your serial is patched), it couldn’t be easier to mod the Switch (keeping separate iterations of system and emulated internal storage, so you can boot into them individually and continue playing online) and gain access to the official NES/SNES/Genesis/N64 emulators with their library as well as RetroArch (plus alternatives) which will allow you to play any console released prior to 1999/handheld released before 2005 almost flawlessly.

The problem with Switch Online is most games (especially third party) that anyone would want to play are either a) tied up in licensing hell or b) held onto by their publisher/developer to be included in a future remaster/re-release.

Apparently there's rumors of a Metroid Prime Remaster coming this fall, too.
Hell yes please. The port on the Wii using the motion controls was freaking terrible. I just want to play it again with normal controls. The graphics and world on the games were gorgeous, can't wait to see if they upscale them.

I got it for my kids. They have played some N64 games and my daughter played the animal crossing update some. I think it also opened a new track on Mario Cart. It's ok.
