This SEEMS to be the goal, which puts me all in on this.
Not only that, imagine playing Mobile/Indie Games, Nintendo Handheld, and Console Games all on One Console???
That's incredible. A little Pokemon (not my bag, I'd rather play a handheld RPG). A Little Terraria. A little Breath of the Wild.
That's their sell. All at home OR on the go. One account managing a batch of games you can play from anywhere?
If they upgrade myNintendo for things like Saved Games...take some notes from Xbox Live...that's just huge.
I wonder what this sounds like? Cross save between handheld and console, being able to pick up where you were, playing your console games on the go, have a wide variety of handheld, indie, and console games on the device?

Seriously though, I want to see more about it. I like the detachable controllers and I like how seamless they're advertising the OS, tablet to docking station, etc. Expected a bit more oomph but they can't do much more without driving the cost far too high.

It will be able to run those games, at least in the dock at home, as good or better than any current game system out.
The amazing part is that you'd still be able to run most of those games good enough, on the go. Laying on the bed or couch, on a long trip, even at work on a lunch break.
Um no it won't.
If the leaked specs are accurate. It won't.
Sorry if I misunderstood your post.

Only a ripoff if the other way around.

It is probably the best designed controller ever
the button layout is fricking great especially for games with context sensitive actions which Nintendo does like a boss
the only thing I can complain is that the topside buttons felt cheap in that you had to apply so much pressure it sounded like cheap plastic on a worn spring
you keep your thumb on a and move up down left or right rather than just hovering and hitting the right button.

their chips for cartridges, they were fricking assholes about it. if I had a vendor cut my order because I complained or pleaded for increased quantity, it's something I wouldn't forget, and when cd became the standard format across platforms, it would appear that 3rd party developers told them where to shove it. having said that, I think the n64 was the superior console to playstation.

You don't think she'll complain about that bright arse light in her face while she is trying to sleep?

This is why Sega started stealing so much market share from them with the genesis. Everyone wanted to work with anyone but Nintendo and it showed. It may have been a while ago but there are a lot of people that haven't forgotten and Nintendo hasn't done enough to make up for it.

yeah, i can tell you from the same position in a different industry...i have production needs (not wants) and i understand my vendors do as well, but if they pulled that shite on me...i'd stick it to them the moment i had another option.
you make plans ahead of time, you plot things out, and then when you check on an order they cut your order for checking? no way jose. i'm just assuming they gave them notice too, wouldn't shock me if they sent the order short and told them to eat it.

also, their ventures with other companies...didn't end well.
square i imagine was just going off in another direction, and it wasn't personal but who fricking knows.

if you exercise leverage over people like a fricking cock, just know that eventually you'll find the tables flipped and the other party will not forget.

That was the most awesome console trialer I've ever seen. And I will absolutely buy one of these the day it comes out.
I can't fricking wait.

So I can play games while I lay in bed and the wife can't complain that I "never come to bed with her because I play video games after the kids are sleeping"?
This was my exact first thought. It's why I bought a wii u but the damn controller couldnt reach from the den to the bedroom. This solves that problem.
Can't wait.

Nintendo is still a smart company. They are also a cautious company. They make dumb marketing decisions and sometimes dumb isolated decisions, but you have to remember their place in the market. They are a laser focused gaming company. They don't have other branches or other arms to make up for any major losses or gambles. If their gaming fails, they fail.
The "current gen" industry often operates at a massive loss. The PS4 nor the X1 are profitable yet
A lot of what you say in the following this is true (and I agree with a lot of the dangerous direction the industry is in), but I don't know why or how you think the PS4 and X1 aren't profitable. While the X1 hasn't done as well as PS4, but are absolutely huge money makers.

That was technically two systems and never really caught on because the buy in was massively expensive.
Yeah it's a take on that idea, which was take on another idea. Which was a take on the Super Gameboy. Merging the home console and handheld wasn't Sony's idea alone. It wasn't really Nintendo's alone either.

Yeah I have to hold my Wii U controller just right but some of the games like star fox require both screens
This console is an easy buy. Even if it only launches with Zelda and the other games are 6 months behind, no problem. The new Zelda looks a lot like the first. It will be fricking hard, and you can easily sink a year into it if you're committed to not looking anything up.

If the console costs $400, only comes with next gen Zelda and Mario and the rest is virtual console id buy it without looking back.
