TV mode: Set the Nintendo Switch (OLED model) system into the dock to play Nintendo Switch games on the TV. By using the built-in wired LAN port, players can enjoy another way to connect online in TV mode.
Tabletop mode: Flip the stand on the back of the system and use the system’s screen to play multiplayer games using two Joy-Con controllers right out of the box. A wide adjustable stand makes for a solid and sturdy foundation. It allows players to freely tilt the system and adjust the viewing angle, so it makes it easier to see the screen.
Handheld mode: Players can bring the system wherever they go in handheld mode and play local* or online** multiplayer with friends. The system’s 7-inch OLED screen provides vivid color and crisp contrast.
When the system launches, it will come in two color options:

Nintendo Switch (OLED model) white set, which features white Joy-Con controllers, a black main unit and a white dock.

Nintendo Switch (OLED model) neon red/neon blue set, which features neon red and neon blue Joy-Con controllers, a black main unit and a black dock

OLED is nice but I haven't seen anything about graphics yet

ETA: found this bit somewhere else:

The new Nintendo Switch will boast a larger, 7-inch screen and an OLED display when it launches on Oct. 8. The standard Switch has a 6.2-inch LCD screen, and outputs a 1080p feed when docked. (Nintendo did not specify resolution of the new Nintendo Switch model in its announcement.)

Only really play ours docked on tv so if there isn’t really any improvements in the graphics/processing no real reason to get this I guess.

I’d assume they would be touting improvements in those areas in the release?

Deeply curious what’s up with the discrepancy on the early reporting about the new Switch—4K, slightly but barely more powerful, DLSS—and the actual new Switch—basically the same device with a new screen—that just showed up.

so I guess not really much

I don't think I'd want that big a screen handheld anyway if we're being honest here.

The draw for getting a new one would be a graphics upgrade but if that's not substantial (and it sounds like it isn't) I get to save 350 bucks

My guess is this keeps the train moving on Switch Profits for two more years and Nintendo finds a way to bridge generations (in their own Nintendo way) in 2023, and we get a "Switch Pro," that is powerful enough to also be the "Switch 2."

Hopefully they don't blunder into a wii u situation again. And this is coming from someone who still has their wii u and enjoyed it

I'm a little worried post-Iwata that Nintendo will lose some of that creativity (you never know). Yes it was a blunder, but 1 - It did give us the Switch and 2 - That level of creativity does give us some of the crazy good stuff along with those sorts of "missteps."

What I'm saying is, I think the new leadership will trend more traditional, more give the market what it asks for...at least get their closer than the others have. But they'll do less leading, less figuring out good things the customer doesn't know they want.

I hope there's a balance, and it doesn't trend one way or the other.

If I didn't already have a Switch, I might be convinced to get one of those. Since I do already have a Switch, I'll almost certainly be passing on this. Only way I see us getting one of these is if we want a second Switch.

I agree with the other poster who said this is likely just so they can still keep charging $300 for new Switches.

Why in the world would they go with white joy-cons?

Plenty of people hate the white DualSense because it is difficult to keep clean (I personally ordered the black DualSense as soon as it was available), and now you're putting white joy-cons on a console where the majority of users are kids? Odd choice.

Nintendo Switch system (OLED model) is compatible with the full library of Nintendo Switch games. However, the system will not cleanly fit within all the design parameters of the Nintendo Labo series. There may also be games where the game experience may differ due to the new capabilities of the console, such as the larger screen size.

Well. That's a huge negative.

This thing is a complete rip off. $350 for what, exactly?

A low quality 720p OLED panel that Samsung was begging to get rid of is pretty much the only "upgrade". Other than that, we're getting a new stand and a...LAN port?

The BOM on this device is likely barely higher than the OG Switch, yet it's got a $50 higher price tag. This is 7 year old hardware Nintendo is selling for $350.

Only thing I need to know is do I need the new switch to play the next Zelda game (not the remastered stuff).

And Nintendo continuously sells out that hardware.... Why make something cheaper that the market continues to buy in droves?

I mean I don't like plenty of Nintendo decisions, but the Switch still sells consistently with no slowdown regardless of price.

Is it even 720p? Thought the screen was same resolution as base switch and I thought that was a sub 720p resolution.

The new dock with an Ethernet port is nice. I may get that.
