Must have Switch accessories?

So my Switch is in transit and should be here by Tuesday. What do I need other than games? I know I need a pro controller but do I need a screen protector? Anything else you would recommend?

Screen protector will definitely help when docking for sure. A carrying case is a wise investment also.

2nd Set of Joycons for instant 4 player possibilities, if you need that. Carrying case, screen protector and the pro controller if you don't need 4 player.
Additionally, I would get 1 charging grip, that thing is great.
I would buy a 2nd Nintendo AC Charger, or, a second dock. The ability to take the thing to another TV is kind of awesome once you have the setup.

I see people say this, but I can't figure out why.

Because it's the only non suck arse way to play their games.

This. I play Kart and Splatoon on the Pro, sometimes Xenoblade, but that's it. Everything else on the joycons, grip or not.

I don't even have grips. The motion controls on the switch feel so much better and honestly I'm getting spoiled by being able to just rest my hands wherever while playing.

Mad men I tell you!
I just don't like anything about the joy cons. The weight is all wrong, layout is tiny and small buttons. When playing in portable mode it is fine. Playing outside of portable mode, why would you want the pain? They suck.

I actually love playing the switch in handheld mode with the joycons. My wife refuses to play with anything but them as well.
I'm not a huge fan of them in docked mode (in the controller holder thing) but that's why I have the pro controller. I love playing splatoon with the joycons separated and the strap attachments on them though

I bought a plug-in controller so my girls could play 2 player on Lego Worlds when docked and to see how much a different controller would get used befofe paying $70 for what is clearly an overpriced controller, and no one gets away from the joycons unless they're playing that game. I think the joycons when used with the joycon grip are really easy to use and handheld mode feels like playing an old Sega Game Gear. Love it.

I have docked my switch about 3 times over the last half year of owning it.
a nice USB C cord is a must.

Analogue sensitivity on the joycons sucks. That's probably the main thing that led me to the Pro Controller. The shoulder buttons were hard to hit too.
I would not say the Pro Controller is essential though. It depends entirely on preference and probably how big your hands are. I can see the Joycons being a nightmare for people with big hands.

I've said it before but I think the Joy-cons are fine when used in tandem. Is the pro controller better? Yes, but not astronomically so. If you are an adult and will be playing local multiplayer with another adult, get the pro controller. If you have young kids, though, they're not going to care. I'd just get a second set of Joy-cons.
I would get...
Screen protectors - LINK
An A/C adapter - LINK
*An extra dock so you can hook it up to a 2nd TV and travel with it - LINK
Some USB C cables so you have more charging options - LINK
And a carrying case - LINK
*Note: I bought that dock and it works well but be aware that you need to be a little careful when docking it so you don't bend the USB plug and I can't wake the system up while it's in that dock. I have to un-dock it, wake it up, and re-dock it. Not a big deal for me since I'm typically already at the Switch to pull the Joy-cons off of it but I figured I'd mention it. There may be a better 3rd party dock than that one.
