So, a $50 PC digital download is better than a $35 used disc?
Can you find a $35 used disc within a month of release?
Nope. Gamestop has them marked at $55. I know this for a fact.
I bought Hitman last week for $6. You know what a used disc of the same game cost at Gamestop right now? $18.99.

Time and demand are connected. As time goes on, demand dwindles. At least in this paradigm.
Not for Gamestop, WalMart, etc. They still sale games well past their demand a year or two later for full price new.
Why?
To make their used games look better by comparison.
You are missing the point over and over again.

I can trade in a newer game or multiple older games to offset that difference in price.

I am not missing the point. And I'm not trying to be pro anything. I'm just trying to figure out how it's better to get a $50 digital copy over a $35 used copy.
I see your point about the used copy at Gamestop. But I could buy it cheaper on Craigslist, right? Or ebay. Or Half. But if you remove the physical copy, that part of being a consumer is restricting me to just buying a $50 copy.
I don't hate what you're saying at all, I hope you aren't getting the wrong idea.

That's cool.
I can keep those multiple games for future use if I want to play them instead of worrying about offsetting the price difference.
Which is more appealing?

frick..forgot about that...
but seriously, even if I buy a new game for full price... I beat it and still within a month or two I can trade that game in for $20-30 dollar and even more with trade-in and preorder bonuses.
IMO I doubt any sort of move to digital distribution will decrease the cost of games that significantly.
There is a reason the used market is a 1 billion dollar business...it does save a lot of people a lot of money.

Too me the former...so the ladder option doesn't apply. So as you say..."who cares because it doesn't affect me"

No it isn't. That's just on one service and that's Steam.
I pre ordered Borderlands 2 with the season pass from GreenManGaming for $45 a week before release. It activates and plays on Steam.
I too can go on mulitple sites and buy game keys from individuals including Ebay. I sold 4 of my games keys on Ebay just last week as a matter of fact.
Here is one of them for you

They should come up with a system in which you could do this all online via your system. It is possible. I mean stout gives me games all the time for free.
ETA: well i say for free, but you know...

No sane person is going to say they would prefer to have just one game instead of getting that one game for cheap enough that it allows them to keep their old games.

No it isn't..I play countless games a year and I own 2 as of now.
I don't play through many games more than once. Why should I keep them if I can make money back.

If you give them to as cheap up front then yes no sane person would...but this $10 price difference you speak of is less than the money I can get back.

You aren't making your money back if you are giving them to Gamestop for anything.
You may be the exception more than the rule though if what you state is true.

Not all my money back...but a large chunk.
I save a hell of a lot of money trading in games at Gamestop...

Gamestop is such a rip that I gave up trading in my games there. So much so that I just keep them now. Even if they are duds. Still got Homefront :never forget:.
