A few posts down it is clearly disputed.

Not really. Only Neogaf since the owner of both sites hate each other. VGC has been quoted by major publishers and publications.

Read my edit. That's from Kotaku.

Is that me?
I don't think it's a laughing stock, but they do make adjustments to their sales data based on publisher shipment data. I know they have get data from retailers across the globe and have to extrapolate to get their numbers (as does every other tracking organizations as NPD only get around 50% of the US market and has to guess the rest).
ETA: You meant Bunta. We do know the PS3 has passed 360 in worldwide shipments, but are a virtual tie in actual sales.

And if you read the conclusion to that article you posted:

Let's be clear. I think the concept behind VGChartz is a wonderful one - freely available data to let everyone see how well games are selling. And it's absolutely true that all data is an estimate - not even major services such as Media Create and NPD get it exactly right.

This thread is awesome. I read every post on every page. And I don't regret it.
PS rules, Xbox drools.

Not to mention you posted a VGChartz graph in that same thread..
I also said it was the first link I found. It was out of being lazy as at that point I had never heard of VGchartz.

It's not a bad place, just imperfect. I'm very biased though. Been on it for a while when the generation was just starting, but blind to say that the numbers are perfect. The primary use for it should be:
1. Get an general idea for certain markets.
2. Find out the lifetime sales of older games (a year or so old) and hardware, because they can back adjust numbers (if needed) based on shipment data.

It was reported yesterday the NSA backdoors itself into Google, Facebook, etc to spy on innocent people but GD that Xbox is just too invasive!!!!!!!
Do you mean prism, the program that Microsoft joined in 2007?

THAT'S IT!!!!!!!
I am going off the grid like Gene Hackman in Enemy of the State.
I guess I can't get an Xbox one to keep me entertained in my cave!

If PS4 is the better console IMO then that will be my purchase. I'm not set on either console. I'll gladly "defend" MS and Xbone from childish knee jerk reactions from the idiots on this board.
I had a PS1, PS2, and PS3 at launch. Switched to the 360 because of Live and the ability to play with my friends.
Live dedicated servers has me PERSONALLY thinking Xbone>PS4 at the moment. I am interested to see where this used game stuff is going. I do enjoy a eBay used game purchase. I can't imagine Sony not emulating some of these steps MS has taken with regards to DRM to appease publishers.
