I could see them teaming with GCP for cloud gaming after Stadia has fully failed

This is already confirmed to be happening.

not a chance in hell. You MIGHT get timed exclusivity for TES, but there's no way they just throw billions down the toilet.

I think what this deal means more than anything is that new IPs will be exclusive.

You seem to want exclusives to support console differentiation (I don't know why, that just forces the consumer to purchase two consoles

Long story short I guess. YES, Why? Because what you are asking for doesn’t and likely won’t ever exist. So yes I’ll buy my console based off exclusives.

It will be. Along with every other future game from every IP that Microsoft acquired today.

Here's a direct quote from Phil Spencer earlier today on CNBC -

quote:

"One of the things that has me most excited is seeing the roadmap with Bethesda’s future games, some announced and many unannounced, to Xbox console and PC including Starfield, the highly anticipated, new space epic currently in development by Bethesda Game Studios"

This is a move to get people spending their time playing on PC and Xbox. As mentioned, Microsoft benefits more in the long term if someone buys a Xbox to play these games rather than just making $60 from a sale of the game on PS5.

Wouldn’t be shocked in the coming months if Sony purchases take two for rockstar, early 2019 rumors was Sony was going to purchase them for 5bn, than nothing came of it except Somt started getting some timed exclusives gta stuff. Could see Sony say gloves off and look to purchase take two and maybe Konami.

Pretty sure I've read that Sony doesn't have near the buying power that Microsoft does?

Microsoft purchased ZeniMax Media today for $7.5 billion. They still have about $130 billion cash on hand.

Sony's 2019 Playstation operating profit was $2.35 billion. Take-Two interactive would cost at least $12 billion, which is roughly 20% of Sony's total market cap.

Microsoft is playing in a different league than Sony when it comes to acquisitions like this.

Is this the biggest gaming move in gaming history? Only thing I can think of is the Activision - Blizzard merger, and that's not even all that close in comparison

Supercell was sold for 8.6 billion
Giant interactive was sold for 9.1 billion

But yes if we don't include the weird Chinese shite.

Edit - nevermind, thought you meant highest price.

This is exactly the kind of move people have been wondering why Microsoft hasn't been making. They clearly heard, because first they went after WB's gaming arm, and now this.

I think Microsoft would have purchased Warner Bros' gaming division, but AT&T had second thoughts and decided not to put it up for sale.

Microsoft likely isn't done though. I wouldn't be surprised at all to seem them re-acquire Bungie within the next year or two.

For sure.

Would that be a big get? Other than working to fix Halo (I don't play but people say it's broken), is Anthem a big enough game for that to be a big deal?

There were rumors of that exact talk happening already.

Oh that would funny. I would say no, but just for now.

Adding EA into GamePass was pretty big.
The topic of this thread even bigger

Your premise would decimate the other side.

There was a rumor in December that XBox was looking to buy a Polish game studio. I imagine getting CD Projekt Red would be their first choice, but that article seems to indicate CD Projekt Red isn't for sale. Microsoft has the kind of money to buy things that aren't for sale though.

Anthem is developed by BioWare, and they're owned by EA.

Bungie's main focus right now is Destiny 2, although they had a $100 million investment recently from NetEase to help develop a new AAA game.

Bungie's position likely isn't sustainable though. Like Bethesda, they need an injection of cash to keep up with the demand of AAA titles. Given that there are still quite a few people at Bungie that were present back during the Microsoft days, a future re-acquisition wouldn't surprise me.
