"Meh" News Segment: Disney Infinity to be discontinued

Sucks they're discontinuing it

I still don't really know what this is.

That sucks. kind of related I have a rocket raccoon infinity piece leftover from X-mas.(unopened) If anyone local wants it, i will gladly dead-drop it anywhere in the local area (southshore metro) for you to pick up. Was going to donate it. Not worth much.

I'm not a huge fan. Outside of the play set quests, this is just a really expensive Minecraft. Most of the user-generated maps you can download are completely glitchy when playing with more than one player, even if the map was created with two players in mind. I really wanted to love this game, but Skylanders and Lego Dimensions are 10 times better.

And it's not that I dislike collectible games. We bought and loved every Skylanders other than Trap Force. Tons of playtime out of all of those. This design we just crap though.

We got Disney Infinity when 3.0 came out and I loaded up on a bunch of cheap characters from the prior games. The Star Wars playset that came with the game was fun, but after that it's just a giant Minecraft clone with awful size limits they impart on you so the world can be downloaded by others. There's literally no reason to buy new characters unless you get a playset with it. I think my daughter has played with maybe 3 of the characters we've purchased, and one of those was only because she had to use a Star Wars character in order to play through the levels. It's real bad. I'm a little surprised Disney put out a product that is so extremely sub-par. I'm so happy it is being discontinued so I won't have to deal with my daughter's disappointment this coming Christmas when she discovers Santa didn't bring a Disney Infinity update.

I really enjoyed playing Skylanders with my kid, and I like this trend of collectible toy/video game combos that this created, but I don't like that the characters in those games are tethered on the screen. It forces my daughter and I to stick together throughout every single segment of the game. You can't split up and tag team anything whatsoever, even after you've beaten the game. That's extremely annoying. I'm also tired of having a new gimmick added every single year. Trap team was ok by me, but this whole "let's add cars to the game so you have to buy YET ANOTHER STARTER PACK" to play the new game is too far for me. I'm tired of paying $70 a year for Skylanders. Lego Dimensions has stated they won't be releasing new portals every year, and hopefully that is true. I will throw money at everything they release if they stick to that mindset.

It would be awesome if Lego Dimensions could get some Disney sets into that game now that this has happened. That game is far better than anything Disney Infinity has done, and the characters are far more recognizable than Skylanders characters.
