Have fun.
I’m still playing through ME1 on insanity to get the achievement.
Currently on Feros.

Welcome!
After Scruffy abandoned me, I was starting to think this thread was dead. I planned to post a couple of more times to track war asset totals, but figured I would just be talking to myself

Insanity has taken a little longer than I was planning.

Maybe one day I’ll try an insanity run, but I doubt it. Everything I’ve heard about it makes me think it’s more of a chore than it is fun. I find Hardcore strikes a pretty good balance between having fun and punishing stupidity.
ETA: I do plan on doing another run somewhat soon. I've played the trilogy three times: every time as an adept Liaramancer (it's not quite as crazy as it might sound. First with broshep, second with femshep, third was playing LE, so I wanted to be able to test against what I remembered).
For my next run, I'm thinking either Vanguard or Infiltrator and trying my hand at Talimancing.

It’s a chore, but that is because of my gameplay style.
I can’t play this game without being a completionist.
It is kinda slowing down my playthrough a bit.
Some shite is impossible too.
The fricking rachni are a bitch and a half.
There is that one mission where you protect some soldiers from rachni on the surface and then have to go into a mine to kill them.
Couldn’t beat it.
They take off all of your shield and half health with one hit.

I found Hardcore on ME1 and ME3 to be fairly easy as a Vanguard. ME2 had some challenging spots, so I though HC was correct difficulty on that one. But I can see insanity being, well, insane on ME2.
Vanguard's charge and nova combo in ME3 is way overpowered. If you equip correctly and get your recharge speed to minimal levels, you're ready to charge again by the time you finish unleashing nova. Since you don't take damage during those powers, you can pretty much spam those for 95% of the battles in ME3. Now its a blast to play as a Vanguard because every battle is nonstop mayhem, but it removes any difficulty from ME3.

I remember that mine mission being a chore on hardcore as well. But that’s also partly because it’s not really an adept friendly mission. Extremely short sight lines and forced proximity to get new mobs to trigger. Was tough keeping shite off of my glass cannon space wizard
Eta: I have never, and can’t see myself ever, doing anything less than a near-100% playthrough. Which is another reason insanity sounds like no fun to me

I’ve read that Vanguard is a bit underpowered in 1 and overpowered in 3. It’s part of why I’m leaning a bit away from it for my next playthrough. The only reason I’m even still considering it is because it feels somewhat like the opposite of an adept playthrough (not from the in universe perspective, but from the “I’ll die without cover” to “what’s cover?” Perspective).

Its literally the direct opposite

ME2 has certain big enemies/bosses or situations that you cant charge into. So it actually hurts you to be a Vanguard in those rare battles if you play as a charge first Vanguard. You at least still have to strategize some in ME2 making it the perfect balance of the class, imo. But Nova power being added in ME3 turns you into a charging god.
Not trying to persuade out of Vanguard. It is extremely fun in ME2 and ME3 as it is nonstop, batshit crazy action with very little use for cover as you said. But you can literally be a one man wrecking machine in ME3.

Before you get comfortable playing an adept, you have to micro manage the frick out of everything, or you'll die. I was pausing for tactics constantly in my first playthrough.
Now that I'm about to finish my third adept playthrough, I still pause some, but it's few and far between, unless I'm getting surrounded/overwhelmed. My mouse has three mappable buttons, which I mapped to three specific slots on my quick button power menu. Then, depending on the mission, I would drop different powers into those slots. For example, in 3, my default was Liara's singularity mapped to my scroll wheel click, and then my warp and double throw mapped to my two side buttons. If it was a shield heavy mission, I might map Garrus' overload, etc.
I still have to pause on occasion, but the gameplay is much more fluid and enjoyable this way.
ETA: Oh, and I turn squad powers to fully on and intentionally avoid putting any points into powers I don't find useful, to keep them from spiking their recharge time with bullshite. 90% of the time, their power usage is actually pretty on point.

I did this and as a 34 year old dad with an infant i wasn't looking for a challenge this time around.
That playthrough was fun as a Vanguard

Just about to finish Virmire and move towards the endgame.
Hopefully ME1 on insanity will be done soon.
I hear ME2 is the hardest of the three.

ME1 beaten on insanity.
Finally!
ME2 started on insanity.
Went with soldier this time around. Usually do adept, but higher difficulties are hard as frick as adept.
I also don’t need to do any of the other achievements since I finished them all on my first playthrough.

Welcome!
After Scruffy abandoned me, I was starting to think this thread was dead.
I still read the thread occasionally. Bought the LE but holding off on playing until I get the new GPU & TV for my home theater set up. So don't have much to contribute.
Only played the original as they first came out. I believe some end game stuff has changed since then related to military strength, etc. Looking forward to replaying it. It was honestly one of my all time favorite trilogies.

Original original, or with the extended cut?
If the former, then the extended cut made it better. If the latter, not much has changed. The extended cut already made it to where you didn’t need to play multiplayer to get the “best” ending. LE tweaked the numbers a bit, but it’s nothing major.
Anyway, don’t worry about waiting to contribute. The only game that has real gameplay differences is 1. The rest just saw graphical updates, for the most part.

Original original. Yeah I'll be playing soon hopefully.

Then yeah, the Extended Cut made the ending significantly better. It's still not great, but it took it from "terrible" to "meh" in my opinion, which is good enough that it doesn't tarnish the rest of the ride

I remember doing a soldier run on ME2 insanity back in the day and thought it was a lot easier than infiltrator hardcore.

Yeah I've seen reviews and heard from friends who have played more recently about the changes.
Was Effective Military Strength always a part of the game? I just don't seem to remember it. Or maybe you couldn't get max & unlock the one destroy ending without multiplayer so I didn't bother.
