Objectively it's a good option for those who want good graphics/performance but do not want to invest what it takes to buy/build a gaming PC. Currently you can buy a 1TB PS4 console at Walmart for about 350 bucks while my latest high end gaming configuration will cost about $1300 to build. I obviously prefer the PC because I like the being able to play games with mods, etc. but the difference in cost is significant for roughly the same performance.

I'm a PC guy but I am thrilled with my purchase of the PS4. Loved Uncharted series, Resident Evil 7, Last of Us and Tomb Raiders. Still have some of the best titles to play and yet, if I don't play another game it was worth every penny.

I like action adventure. Shooters. Some rpgs. I've heard nier is really good.

Well Nier is quite good. I highly recommend it if you like action RPGs.
I would also consider Gravity Rush 2, Witcher 3, The Last Guardian (if you've played Ico or Shadow of the Colossus), Persona 5, Resident Evil 7, Valkyria Chronicles (it's a strategy RPG), and Ratchet and Clank.
I could get narrower, but that should be enough for you find a game or two to get.
