re: Japanese people are targeting the historian Ubisoft relied on for their black samurai

More from that Hall tweet:

•METI declined to answer because it doesn't concern them.
Internet culture warriors hyped up the NHK Party's questions like they were a huge thing, not understanding that Japanese government ministries aren't in the business of censoring works of historical fiction.

This kind of questioning is common in Japanese politics and is often just performative. Many of these content creators did not inform their audiences that the NHK Party is a tiny party with almost zero practical political influence in Japan. LINK (3/3)

Ubisoft: makes a pleading appeal to the Japanese people, citing backlash immense enough to warrant a rare 4 page statement/apology
Board Leftist: There is no backlash, Japan is fine with it. Don't trust your lying eyes!

Bruh you know I like you sicboy. Only poster here ive ever gifted a game. I think youre a good dude. But remove all the culture war race shite from the equation and the game loooks like absolute fricking garbage. It looks actually anti fun to play. The parries or animations or whatever take an eternity. It looks way worse than Ghost and its coming out 4 years later. Theyre trying to create this mashup of Ghost and Sekiro but theyre all too stupid there I guess, must be the DEI training, to understand why that can NEVER be a success. The game will be complete and total dog water. Vallhala was too though and made a massive amount of cash. I think people are done with Ubisofts bullshite at this point. The race shite, the sexual harassment, the stealing games you paid for, the push to a new industry pricing ladder, and above all else nothing they make anymore is worth a shite.

Yeah, PR. That's a new thing.
Ubi: "We're sorry your feelings got hurt, but this is how we've always done things, you dumb shits."
Point being, the Japanese government isn't going to give a shite unless it's something to do with gratuitous violence and/or nudity/sex. Nothing is going to happen. Ubisoft might have conversations with the gaming public about their concerns, but I highly doubt they change anything of significance about how Yasuke is portrayed in the game, especially since Japanese officials aren't going to bother with it.

All of their recent AC games have been successful for them, and as much crap that Valhalla got, it actually sold more than Origins and Odyssey.
We'll agree to disagree, I liked what I saw from the gameplay trailer. Yasuke is a brute character, so yeah, all of his animations are going to be slower. I know it's an easy thing to compare this to Ghosts, but it's just 2 completely different games, and I won't compare anything, graphics wise, to Ghosts. On my PS5 it looks amazing, I imagine even better on PC. Although I feel like most of their games look good (Far Cry 5, Origins, Odyssey, and Valhalla all have beautiful worlds), I feel there are way better looking games out there, but that's not what most ubisoft fans go to their games for, at least not the most important reason. But, the game doesn't release for another 4 months so what we saw isn't even the final product.
I'll be here admitting it if I'm wrong, but I think Shadows is going to kill sales wise, probably their highest selling AC game to date, and this will be a forgotten conversation. But we'll see.

Honest question, are there any Ubisoft games you've liked in the past? I ask because people who don't like their games just never change their mind and most of their comments are generic and don't actually apply to modern games because they haven't played their games in a long time. I remember reading this critique about Far Cry 6 where the guy was complaining about things done in 6 that weren't changed at all from 5, and every single thing he brought up was "nope, that mechanic wasn't in 5 at all".
I just think the idea that people are done with Ubisoft's "bullshite" is fun to say, but not really accurate when you look at how well their games still sell. And that's the deciding factor when it comes down to it, especially in terms of any changes Ubisoft might make to how to make games.

Look man if you end up liking the game I really will be happy for you. I want people to like their games. And yes I said myself how much they made with Valhalla. I simply dont see this game hitting those heights. Its coming far too late when other better games have already delivered on the experience Ubisoft is trying to here and theyve done it substantially better and the three best off the top of my head all have no in game purchases. Irrespective of anything else like how I think it looks worse than a ps3 game and the DEI cringe is an instant no for me. They are simply too late to market with a far inferior product that many of their rival companies have already delivered.
ETA to address your second post asking me something. Yes I have liked Ubisoft games. I really like far cry 3 and its dlc, I liked the stealth game siphon filter or whateverr, I like most Rainbow six games, hell I liked the division I think they couldve done so much with that. They have made many great games just not many in a decade. I think its because they just keep making the same game with a new skin,.

We never use historical figures as characters, but chose this instance to add one for. . .uhhhh. . .reasons. We relied on (wholly discredited) historians to craft a narrative around a gay black samurai. We brought in consultants, read Sweet Baby, but please don't be mad at them for what we agreed to let them do.
Board Leftists: It is gamer's fault for noticing things.

So he's gay now?
The last two AC games you've had the option to romance male or female characters. Ubisoft confirmed that has remained in the game. It's nothing new.
Be honest, if Yasuke was completely made up, are you saying you would be fine with the character choice? I somehow doubt it.

Found out a year or so later Sweet Baby did character development, sensitivity reading, and narrative on the game. So everything made sense.

So, yeah.

But I still wouldn't buy it, because it is a dumb DEI-only decision to not use a Japanese samurai.

My only real complaints about Valhalla was how slow Eivor moved and the fact that, as cool as it was in theory, the whole viking theme didn't really fit with the Assassin's world with me. You could still play it stealth and some of the raids were fun, but it was a little off compared to the other games. But that world is beautiful and I liked their format of a separate quest line for reach region you were trying to gain allegiance from.
I found most of the characters and their stories interesting myself, but I will admit it took me a long while to find my stride with the game. Started and stopped multiple times. But I was the same way with Far Cry 5 and that is now by far my favorite Far Cry game.

Again, an option with the previous two games, but an option. So if he does romance a man, that's on you.
ETAA: Reading their "apology" again, they don't actually state what they are apologizing for. This is just an acknowledgement that people are upset, ok, but.........whatever. We aren't doing anything different.

sicboy is coping hard about the Japanese outrage over this game.
This is what they're saying: "We know we screwed up, but the game is already ready to ship so we can't change it now."

That isn't what they're saying at all. This is essentially telling your child you're sorry for them having to get a shot. Hate that you hate it, but it's going to happen.
Not sure how much more clear it can be that it's only a small part of the Japanese gaming community and members of government that are taking issue with this, but the Japanese government doesn't care, won't do anything, and Ubisoft is kindly saying to get over it, this is what we do.

Of course it is. They can't afford to stop the release and fix the issue, so they're running damage control.

Well, that's true, except Ubisoft is the child in this scenario.

Not a small part at all. All you have to do is read the comments under the Ubisoft Japan apology to know you are incorrect.

That’s exactly what he said, only you’re coping about why “it’s going to happen.” Because it’s way too late in the dev cycle for them to make any major changes.

I guess we will take gamesradar’s word for it then that the govt doesn’t care. They won’t do anything because as mentioned the precedent so far is only for morality stuff that they will actually ban a game. So likely they will let capitalism do the work for them
ETA- Damn I hope you never or have never run a business because that’s a terrible mentality to have. “I don’t care what my customers think. Eat this shite sandwich I made for you and be happy because I make shite sandwiches. That’s what I do.”
