re: Is there any reason besides nostalgia to hold on to old games and systems?

You ever come across chrono trigger or secret of mana those are still worth $ too.
On that note, I may have to shoot you an email re: emulators. Id like to play a few old games. Have you seen one for either of the two i mentioned?

I love collecting old games. There are some systems, such as the Sega Saturn, that cannot be properly emulated (unfortunately). The Saturn has some amazing games.

I know a couple of guys that buy/sell NES consoles. They usually sell the consoles for over $80, way above market value. They'll give me a few free games if I can fix any broken consoles, so that's a fun way for me to collect retro games.
Personally, retro consoles/games have a nostalgic appeal (even if I acquired them at no charge). If you prefer to get the $$$, by all means sell lol.
Do you happen to have a list of what games/consoles you're selling, or a link?

Here are some pics I took a long time ago but the collection has grown a lot since then. I have more games, Gameboys and games for them, a few more consoles, controllers, etc.
Just yesterday my workers brought me a NES and 18 games from a house they worked on.

The only think I don't have from the pics is Stack Up and a few SNES games.
That and I gave away a few Xbox 360s, TVs I had found, and games to some low income families to give their kids for Christmas.

I keep my old consoles, but I plan on having a gaming room when I buy a house.

Besides, all of the stuff I am selling I have found in the past year or so and gotten for free so I have no attachment to any of it.
In that case, I'd have no problem with it. I could go buy a great game on N64 I've never owned and feel no attachment to it.
Even games I have owned for 15+ years I will still fire up an emulator rather than plug the console into my TV and play it.
Every single console non-current generation game that I would ever want to play a game on is easily emulated, and I have no real attachment to any game on the PS3 or 360. The only console hard to emulate is N64.

Simple fact of not wanting to sell something for 10% of what I put into it.
I will leave it sitting in a closet, never to be touched again, rather than do that.

If I wasn't living in an apartment I'd still have all of my game systems hooked up. I love having a large gaming library with the original systems just ready to go.
ETA: My daughter really wants Luigi's Mansion on GameCube. If you had that I would totally take that off your hands.

How often are you really going to get the urge to play a 10-30 year old game on a 10-30 year old system that can be virtually impossible to connect to modern TVs?
We still play mario kart 64 and smash brother in my house.

There is a feel to it you can't emulate IMO. I still have my NES and SNES for this reason.

Emulators are okay, but sometimes I just like the feel of the actual control in my hand and playing it on my t.v
I've started to go this route: The best of both worlds
But, I prefer the cheaper knockoff Chinese versions myself
