Yup. Smartphone games in a way set the industry back and advanced it at the same time.

People gave up the quest for immersive and went portability, which kind of sucks for true gamers. So many resources have been used to give us graphics from the 1990s and 1980s level objectives.

On the flip side, these simple mobile games spread gaming all over and increasing a gaming base.

I am ready for the pendulum to swing back and take the next step. VR and AR, bring it on. How about GTA VII in an augmented reality world

Sony already got to that point a few years ago. Every Samsung and Sony TV came with PS Now. I do hope that every manufacturer invests in streaming tech because I can very easily see that replace what we have for a lot of genres.

As the Playstation/Xbox get more powerful, the Switch ports for multiplats will get worse and less frequent.

I don't necessarily buy the portability factor as an excuse for buying lower quality versions of the same games I can already get on other consoles. Wasn't that the main reason people said the Vita failed? Because they were trying to put PS3 quality games on a handheld so why don't people just play on a PS3?

I get that with the Switch you're not having to buy two versions of the same game to play at home vs on the go, but I really think the value of portability is overstated. I just don't see the portability factor of the Switch being utilized that much by adults except for in very specific situations such as vacations or business trips.

That said, it'll be all about the exclusives that Nintendo and third parties can pump out.

The Wii had a surprising amount of third party exclusives at least for awhile, but that system does strike me as being much easier to develop for than the Switch.

Right now, I'm just not seeing a comfortable level of third party love. The switch still has the tiniest amount of floorspace in any store that sells video games, and there's not really much yet announced that is not already available on other consoles.

Nintendo has a lot of great IPs but they blew their load at launch with Zelda and Mario. Now we're awaiting the obligatory Super Smash Brothers and have to assume that a Mario Kart title is not incredibly far behind.

Thank the stars Nintendo has seen fit to bring back Metroid. So many other Nintendo franchises have atrophied in favor of the once a generation 3D Mario, Zelda, SSB, and Mario Kart.
