I hear the characters and story suck. At least you can expect the same gameplay during every FC (which isn't bad), but the story needs to be somewhat compelling. Also heard this game got dumbed down a lot?

Didn’t know there was a new one, so I will say yes

gameplay has not really changed much since FC3
The basics of them are the same, first person shooting, taking out camps and fortresses, evil dictator/nut job, but they've evolved the meat and potatoes a good bit between games IMO.
-Far Cry 4 was more of 3 but introduced co-op and more vehicle choices (including a flying lawn mower)
-I never really played primal, but cavemen.....that's different.
-Far Cry 5 brought the game to America, expanded on the specialists system they kind of introduced in 4 with Hurk, no more radio towers, and each sub boss had it's own region that you had to earn resistance points in to unlock the boss fight. Plus more flying vehicles (helicopters were super fun). And you leveled up via perk points by earning achievements and finding the magazines in the supply caches.
-New Dawn added more RPG elements (tiered enemies), along with a home base to upgrade, crafting weapons, and the ability to take on the camps over and over while upping the difficulty and getting more rewards (that you desperately need to upgrade the home base). The specialists were still there, but instead of waiting on a timer for you to call them back if they died, you collect resources that you can use to bring them back.
I'm about 30 minutes into 6 so not sure which direction they went with a lot of this. Yes, the foundation is pretty much the same, but to say these games are just "more of the same" is a bit reductive.
I get open world fatigue, but when I play a series, I don't need it to reinvent the wheel. I'm playing it for a specific purpose, a specific itch. Far Cry does that always, and they change it up enough to feel like it's never just a re-skin.

5 was my first and I enjoyed it.
I'll enjoy this one.

I played some 5 in anticipation of 6 and just flew around in a helicopter seeing if I could make it under bridge spans.
For the most part, yes.

There isn't much difference between 3, 4, and Primal.
5 and New Dawn are similar with New Dawn making a lot of changes for the worse.

All fair points. Far cry is my favorite among the Ubisoft line up. I skipped 4 and waited a while to play 5 but I enjoyed it.
One thing that has been a thorn for me in the series is the stealth. I can usually take out the alarms quietly enough but at some point I'm going to have to go loud. As shitty as Homefront 2 was overall, I enjoyed the hit and run tactics that were pretty much required to take out bases. I guess I'm looking for change or more options in the core combat.

Any reason they have you throwing baseballs at people, animals, etc?

Distractions? I don't remember baseballs but you can make animals attack humans. That's one of my favorite parts of the games

Person playing game i watched, had a crippled dog as his side kick. It had a chariot looking dealio, as he had no back legs.
It was odd, because it doesn't seem to do anything but follow you

Just hop on the boat at the very beginning and ride off into the sunset. Win the game in a few minutes.

Far Cry games are fun but become exhausting before you get anywhere near the end of the story
