Yeah but this 8 sq miles I bet will be a lot more tightly packed with places that you can interact with and no open "dead" space.

just like new york, build up instead of out

I would think that the game space would be more densely populated with buildings and NPCs where San Andreas and RDR had open expanses of nothing.

While I agree that there was "nothing" in those open expanses in RDR it was at least vibrant. You could see animals and maybe a carriage off in the distance. In SA man there were stretches of just nothing, just straight up empty land.

I'd rather this. If it's basically a crime scene investigation game from the 40s, I don't want to have to go looking over 50 sq miles for clues. I'd much rather a small, way more in depth environment.
Less is more.

Yeah, about 20 of 28 square miles in RDR were only good for flower picking and coyote hunting.

I think it's quite an accomplishment for games like Bad Company 2 to have such large maps and add several layers of destructability to them. That's pretty cool, IMO.

Oh how I miss just running around and shooting cougars, bears, and other various animals.

I can't look it up because of work filters, but does anybody know how big Morrowind was?

very very big. I would guess at least as big as San Andreas was. It was much bigger than Oblivion, iirc.

Bethesda claims that the scale of the game is equal to twice the size of Great Britain: around 487,000 square kilometers. The game world features over 15,000 towns, cities, villages, and dungeons for the player's character to explore.

I mean that's just not even close to necessary

RDR was amazing but remember how aggravating it was to ride your horse from city to city. It became very annyoing. I'm sure LA Noire will be an extremely dense 8 m^2

You could use campsites for fast travel, but I actually enjoy getting from place to place manually in Rockstar games. Whether you're driving or on horseback, the surroundings feel authentic.

My fast travel never worked for some reason, I loved horseback in the beginning, but if I was impatient that day and I didn't want to get mauled by a bear or a cougar I got pissed

I get the feeling that if they didn't totally muck the launch and had full fledged functionality from the start this game could have been something real special. I couldn't get into enough in the end, but the videos of some of the bomber raids and shite are just amazing.

Just Cause 2 was 385 sq miles (1,000 sq km); which is massive for a sandbox game! I remember when I played it last year that it took a while even by jet flying from one side to the other...
