Apparently, L.A. Noire will be 8 sq. miles. I don't think Rockstar released a sq. mileage for GTAiv. But it was a pretty big city.

I remember the SQ KM for Operation Flashpoint Dragon Rising was something like 278 SQ KM. That's about 107 SM. But for the detail and varying color palette of L. A. Noire, 8 SM is pretty awesome.

FYI, San Adreas was 13.9 SM.

ETA: Lew beat me...no idea RDR was so huge.

I edited...it's 278 SKM, or 107 SM...that's what Wiki says, anyway. I didn't fact check it.

I think Fallout 3 was around that as well.

Elder Scrolls: Daggerfall laughs at all of these tiny games.

Bethesda claims that the scale of the game is equal to twice the size of Great Britain: around 487,000 square kilometers. The game world features over 15,000 towns, cities, villages, and dungeons for the player's character to explore.

RDR was a fricking huge map...then you unlock Mexico and it becomes a ginormous map(and also later Black Water(iirc)).

Daggerfall was randomly generated landmass though. It wasn't hand drawn.

Yeah but this 8 sq miles I bet will be a lot more tightly packed with places that you can interact with and no open "dead" space.
