I need help finding a inexpensive computer

I posted this on the OT and don't know why I didn't try this board first.
All I need is the tower, I have all of the peripherals. The main extra that I want it to have is a Blu-Ray drive, read only is fine. Hoping to get one around $300. Anyone seen any good deals lately with this specification?
I was trying to avoid doing the build myself. I just don't have the time right now to research parts. Also, I have a tendency to buy more than I need when it comes to computer parts.
Thanks for any help.

Give it time, people will build one. Everyone is busy gaming on the weekend.

$300 is a pretty meager budget, especially if that includes an OS. Also, are you trying to avoid building JUST because you dont want to do the research or because you dont want to or cant physically build it.
If its the former, we can definitely give you a spec list so all you would have to do is buy the parts we list and then build it. If its the latter, then we will have to scrounge around for a great deal.

I just don't want to build it, but it is looking more like this will be the direction I will go. I was just trying to find a cheap pre-built unit. This is mainly for my teenage daughter to do school work, watch movies (some in Blu-Ray), and Skype where I can keep an eye on her. She has been taking the laptop in her room, which I trust her and she is a good kid, but just trying to be a good parent. I suppose $300 is too small of a budget. I just don't want to go over board. Is Newegg.com the best place to buy parts or are there other sites I should look into? Thanks for any help.

As a teenage boy I hated you being a good parent but as an adult, thank you. We need more of those.

I don't think I've ever encountered a person who discovered the benefits of building a computer, and then decided they don't want to do it again. Guess you're the first.
You might be better off grabbing the cheapest machine Wal-Mart has. But also, I've had about 9 hours of sleep in the past 3 days so I'm not really cognitively able to be as helpful as I usually am.
Any budget pre-built you buy will require you to buy a Blu-ray drive and upgrade it yourself, though.

It's not that I don't want to do it, just a time factor right now.

I think I've come to this conclusion. I'll probably just make some time and build one.

Not to worry about that, nothing but guys jerking it on that site.
I think I'm leaning toward a budget build now. I have the monitor, keyboard, mouse, and a copy of Windows 7 64 Bit (should I spring for a copy of Windows 8?).
I should just need a case, power supply, hard drive, blu-ray drive, motherboard, and cpu. Any other things for a cheap build?

Not unless you want me to come through this computer screen and choke the fricking life out of you.

Have you tried craigslist? People always sell their old custom-built computers there.

That's pretty damn good Stout. I think in going to have to increase the budget to get the Blu-ray drive. Thx for the help.

Do you find that Tigerdirect has the best prices for barebone kits?

I'm putting together a build on Newegg to compare to the one that Stout linked from Tigerdirect. I'm using the barebones kit as a starting point. I'll post when I'm done for opinions.
