It wasn't a good offensive weapon in multiplayer. In single player it was unstoppable on the offensive. The trick in Multiplayer was to always be aiming backwards so that the turret blocked shots from the front.

Weirdly enough it was pretty easy. You needed to drive behind the base into the back wall then turn the turret around so you were protected from pistol and sniper fire. Controlling the tanks are the key to CTF on Blood Gulch. You gotta keep your tank alive alive and try to keep theres out of commission.
