Leaks have suggested Halo Infinite's multiplayer will be free to play.
Details of the unannounced multiplayer were initially posted by retailer Smyths Toys, which described it as a "groundbreaking free-to-play multiplayer experience" with "greatly reduced load times" and up to 120FPS gameplay on Xbox Series X.
The listing has now been pulled, but is still viewable via Google's cache (thanks, Verge).
Xbox leaker Klobrille, who has previously detailed other Halo Infinite features before their official reveal, chimed in to say the game's multiplayer would indeed be free-to-play, and offer some kind of battle pass system.
Eurogamer has contacted Microsoft for comment.
Halo Infinite is due to launch later this year for Xbox Series X, Xbox One and on PC via both the Microsoft Store and Steam. A free-to-play multiplayer offering would open up the game to a vast playerbase - and could be especially important for the Steam audience who do not have access to Xbox Game Pass.

Is the expectation that they are going to expand warzone and make it BR? Can't wait to watch master chief floss while 60 out of 100 people camp on a generic halo BR map

I think BR is the expectation for any MP shooter now. Just the way it is, folks. Embrace the future.

Halo Infinite will not be BR, or at least per one of the developers.
Someone asked if it would be BR and his response was something like "the only BR we're interested in making is the battle rifle" or something to that effect.
Could BR be added or included in some way? Probably, but I think the main multiplayer will be similar to all past halos.

Have they specifically said they're not going to include a BR mode with this game? If it is F2P, that's the best way to monetize it all.

Def prepping for a BR. Cash cows right now with the free to play model.

BR mode would be a fricking disaster with the Halo community. Those who have stuck with Halo to date do so for the sake of that classic Halo multiplayer, not for BR. It would be akin to the shitshow that Halo 4's multiplayer was with having too much CoD thrown in to appeal to other fanbases.

I doubt they would forgo classic MP for BR, but you're delusional if you think it isn't coming.

With the rise of game pass it makes sense. I could see it being the way gaming goes in the near future and possibly long term.

As long as the MP is good and competitive, BR shouldn’t matter one iota either way
Posted on 7/31/20 at 9:56 am to Kodar
You dont have to play it and it will make them a lot of money.
Without being a whiney fanboy, explain how that's a terrible idea.

Yeah as long as regular MP is there and implemented correctly and is solid I wouldn't care at all if they ALSO added a BR mode. The better make sure regular MP is on point first though.

Right. MW is a perfect example of maximizing profits. Paid multi...free warzone. Want to lvl guns quicker? Buy multi or buy blueprints.
Really smart.
Really smart.

You assume it will make them a lot of money. I just see a money pit.
I think people vastly underestimate how sharply resistant to change the Halo community is It's like people forgot the lessons learned through the years starting with Reach all the way to now.
I've heard somewhere around negative 10 desire for a BR through years in the Halo community, and that includes even the fringe aspects of the community. It just isn't there. While that's my own anecdotal experience, you would think I would have heard some degree of push for it by now, but neigh.
The BR has really only two ways of making cash:
Being a standalone game, and that would be riding the Halo label. Even then, I'm really not sure it would be that successful honestly.
Riding cosmetics etc., and that goes back to previous point. ETA: This would really depend on how cosmetics are implemented, but given how they're handled in MCC currently, there isn't any money attached, only playtime.
Otherwise, it's just shipped as another game mode, and will likely be dead for the most part with likely 0 impact on sales.
I guess what I'm getting at is this. I fail to see how a BR will make them a lot of money, especially given the Halo community's past.
All of this is primarily moot anyway as long as anything involving a BR development doesn't impact the base, core multiplayer of the game. If the base MP is fine, 343 will be alright. If it's trash, well, we've seen what happened there @ 4, and 5 to a lesser extent.

There is a group of players out there who aren't necessarily Halo fans but will try out the next new BR game, and it turn it might make them try out the regular MP as well. Halo has a great reputation at tight gun combat and I feel the flair they could add to the BR genre would be exciting and fresh. And once a player base is invested in a game mode, battle passes sell like hotcakes.
The COD community has been whiny since they abandoned boots on the ground for space combat. Making any changes to the formula turned them off. But Black Out and Warzone were undeniable hits.
Don't kid yourself. A Halo BR mode would do just fine. I know you guys want these developers to work for free, but if they're going F2P with their MP, you can bet it will be monetized, and with the success of Fortnite and Warzone, BR isn't that far off.

COD has a fanbase that will undeniably throw money at them without a second thought. It's always been that way fo them.
As I stated, they've confirmed that there will be 0 microtransactions. They pretty much have to include the multiplayer with the base game and ship it as a single package, otherwise the MP development is a loss as there will be plenty who just DL the MP and skip the campaign.
ETA: I also forgot about the part where Halo higherups have reported in the past that a BR mode will not be added to Infinite. Of course they could change their mind, but they've shown some pretty strong adherence to this point in the past.
quote:Every single thing I've read regarding Infinite, including 343 responses, is that there will be 0 microtransactions in Infinite. Granted, that may or may not include battle passes on a technicality of wording, but considering its already present absence in MCC, color me skeptical.
