Absolutely not. Giving a game to one launcher a full year before releasing it on that same platform through other launchers is disgusting and all the more evidence they REALLY want people to be downloading this software for whatever reason you want to go with. That kind of practice is unprecedented on PC and there are many people who refuse to support it.

But the thing is that you can still play it. It doesn't change your experience in game.

This was going to happen no matter what. Launchers are just another way to get money and business exposure. The more these companies get money, the more games that come out. Yes, they could eventually become something like destiny that wasn't complete at first again but with so many titles coming out, they have to stay competitive or die. Just like COD is going through right now.

Unprecedented in PC gaming?

Steam did that very thing with HL2

I don’t really have a dog in the fight nor am I knowledgeable enough on the situation to speak to it but Minecraft has their own launcher and has had it for quite some time now.

Steam....made by Valve....put a game....made by Valve....on Steam only?

Not even remotely the same thing as poaching other studios' work for your own launcher just to force people to use it.

They made people download software to play a single player game. It was a big deal when it released.

That is what I was referring to.

If you're using that logic, shouldn't Epic have the right to sell all Unreal Engine games on their launcher?

I don't think anyone here cares about Minecraft.

I mean, it kinda is. Games are either already on Steam for preorder (Metro Exodus) or previous announced for Steam. Epic is then paying their publisher to pull Steam plans and launch it only on Epic's Store. You then force your fans to use another service.

This type of console wars business practices is from the very early PS3/360 days. PC has been the progressive and innovative platform and it's weird to see it regress like this.

The frick? No? He made the engine, he didn't develop the games. That's not even the same logic. Valve developed and produced their own video game. Tim Sweeney just made the engine and the launcher. The games were made by other developers (Who probably had to pay to even use the engine).

Not to mention the point is asinine considering the Epic Games launcher didn't even exist when these games were made. If they wanted to, I'm sure they could add all those old arse games to their launcher, but that doesn't accomplish what they want to do.

I still don't think y'all PC people understand this exclusivity thing. Yes, it's exclusive to a launcher that you CAN freely play still. Console exclusives you literally CAN'T play at all unless you paid for a new console. There is no real comparison.

It's only a matter of pressing the shortcut to the game on PC. You don't even have to go in the launcher.

I understand some of y'all have a preferred ecosystem but why not move on and explore arguably better resources in discord and Reddit forums? Reviews from YouTube are vastly better than anything on steam also.

No, it isn't. As has been stated many times in this thread.

Does not remedy the issue.

Again, not the issue. It has clearly gone over your head as many things on this board seem to.

Wow, you're unable to be helped.

Please name a game that isn't as easy as pushing the shortcut.

I'll do one for
Windows store : sea of thieves
Epic: fortnite
Steam: kovaaks aim trainer, PUBG, CSGO
Whatever Apex is on
League of legends

All of them is a shortcut on my desktop and I push those, I don't go into the launcher.

You have yet to explain your side that has not been addressed "differently"

I don't think you know what you're arguing about

I'll go down the list....

Epic spyware: overblown by Reddit et Al

Epic "poaching": business tactic to gain users. Wants to undercut other launchers by reducing features but giving more to the developer. Steam does the same by using features but increasing cost to developer.

Exclusivity: not the same as consoles

Features: epic has less but with the resources of the internet, you can have a better experience anyway

It is proof it doesn't matter. You can't even make an argument.
