I find it hard to believe threadripper holds 2.3% market share.

Edt: What does that even really show? That there is no need to upgrade to 7th and 8th gens? AMD is just catching up.

This isn't an Intel vs AMD battle im arguing. I'm asking, wtf is the point of this article?

No one said anything about Intel vs AMD, I was just mocking his dumbass post that no one gets Ryzen unless they're cheap or brainwashed. Pure ignorance.

Its not even a hardware survey or sales.

It is a fckking poll on a hobby website.

Exactly, that's why I questioned why you would think 2.3% TR on an enthusiast site survey is strange.

Yeah. For gaming he is right. They are cutting on CPU to allocate somewhere else. Intel still produces the best results with DX11/12 games just because of single core IPC combined with higher clock ceilings.

I wouldn't say pure ignorance, but Ryzen is a doable option. Its not out the window by any means.

Found this a little odd.

2nd gen Ryzen and 8700K even in gaming is minuscule now, peep that 35 game test that came out yesterday by Hardware Unboxed, really well done video.

In most cases, like this guys in the OP, Ryzen is probably a better recommendation because it's very very similar performance for much less which can go into a better GPU.

It's not that big of a price reduction though. An i5 8600k is like 230. Ryzen 5 2600x is like 200. The 2600x would be a better all around because of multicore performance but there 8600k is better at gaming. Both have 6 cores but I believe the ryzen has more threads (yes, 12 vs 6).

2600X is $204 on NewEgg right now (you missed it on sale Friday for $179), 6/12 Intel 8700K is $350. Big difference in price for less than 3% difference in gaming across 35 major titles out right now.

Now figure the difference being put into a GPU and compare performance difference between that 1060 and a 1070.

Yes sir. Even though I would get the i7 and 1080ti because it's amazing

You'll be fine with an i5. There's hardly any difference between a 8400 and an 8700K when using a 1080 Ti.

Maybe, in specific programs. Games still aren't all that efficient in using more than 4 to 6 cores, but even professional editing/rendering programs aren't all at that point yet. The most cost-efficient workstation CPU (for all-around work) is still one with 4 to 6 cores and high IPC.

I'll probably go with the recert 1060 6Gb with a 8600k. Gonna look into getting a slightly better mobo also. I think I can get it around < 800.

Whatever you do I'd wait for the next round of the 15%-20% off eBay coupon they've been doing often lately.

Like I said earlier last Friday they had the 2600X for $179 plus 15% off making it $155 which is just bonkers. Then you could get a 1070.

15% off an 8600K and mobo and ram and GPU adds up. I think the max discount was $200.

I had no dog in the amd vs intel fight. I did a lot of research and ended up on intel for gaming. I waited for a 20% ebay coupon and got my z370 motherboard and i5 8400 for $200. Picked up a 1070 video card from a kind soul for $200. I probably could have gotten away with a different motherboard but I figure I can upgrade to an i7 later on and overclock.

Best advice here. My buddy got a 7700k for like $180 and a higher end z270 Mobo for $75 no long after the 7700k release.

Rough price even just a few weeks later those things go for $175 no coupon, for the next week they are $164.99 on NewEgg. Unlucky.

Also, why did you buy a Z series overclocking mobo for a cpu that can't overclock?

You left a decent bit of performance on the table for your money with those choices.

Would make more sense yeah. If you were getting good deals/discounts from someone then you might as well, esp a 1070 for $200 when they are $400+ new.
