im getting pretty frustrated with Epic. I have 4 Solo wins, 5 Duo wins, and 1 Squad win, all with screenshots and video to back it up

My stats are showing 1 Solo win, 5 Duo, 0 Squad. I could understand 1 error if I got it while they're doing an update or something, but that's ridiculous

Have you connected your account to fortnite tracker? Probably the best way to see your true stats:

Here's mine

Yeah, same here - after finally getting a Solo win, it doesn't show up at all. That's quite frustrating. :/

Still missing the same Solo win I mentioned before. That was 7-8 kills, would have pushed me well above a 1 k/dr.

What’s the deal with this game? I see there is a version with single player to purchase and I guess a strictly multiplayer version which is free? Is that correct?

It's all multiplayer.

PvP, the battle royale which most of us are talking about is free.

PvE is the more single player mode but it's still multiplayer. It's like 25 bucks till march or something like that and then it's free.

No reason not to try the battle royale

Same, I may try it out in the future, but I am still not very comfortable with my building to try and take on 99 other people.

Building is definitely my weakest aspect of the game. I usually only do a bunch of building when it gets down to the last 3-5.

in each of the 4 solo games ive won, the only building I've done is building up to people's bases to kill them

i find that people panic when you enter their space and surprise them - they tend to miss and make mistakes. that 4 man solo squad wipe I had, they all had SCARs and I had a white AR and a green shotgun i think catch em off guard

In my solo win, when someone was shooting me from behind and had cover, I tossed up some walls to get into a more advantageous position. I assumed they would try and press on me as the storm wall was coming in on them, but I guess they got into a fire fight with someone else as I didn't take any more fire from that area.

To me, solo wins come down to (based on watching others):
A.) Either landing in a good spot for a weapon when around others, or landing away from others.
B.) Limited use of buildings (though some really good players/streamers will build insane bases anyway)
C.) Lack of panic when attacked
D.) Work on accuracy, especially with the AR line of weapons (Burst AR, AR, and SCAR)
E.) Get good with short range weapons - shotguns mostly.
F.) Setup your inventory to swap as needed and quickly
G.) Get lucky by not getting sandwiched between multiple players

I am not a fan of solo because it punishes aggressive players. Less people hide in team modes.

Edit: Not complaining about it. It just is not as fun.

I tend to play squads, but I was getting legit frustrated last night between no mics and people who either would land far away, or literally shot/blew me up.

this is very true. im always adjusting and i keep in my head how many times i have to tap Y to reach a particular item.

i still love solo, but Duo is the perfect mode IMO

I recommend just landing at one of the big 3 locations every time: Retail, Greasy or Pleasant. Fight it out. That way you either win all the loot or die and can play another game. To me it's a waste of time to just land someone obscure, have bad loot and wait 30 minutes just to die to someone who is more kitted.

Build a lot, but don't build big bases. Building is what differentiates good players IMO. Anyone can shoot. Especially with random bloom.

Agree

Because of the current bloom shooting mechanic, the shotgun is the most consistent gun class in the game. Highly recommend getting comfortable with the tactical (or double pumps ... don't run with just 1 unless you have elite aim).

This isn't as important if you use the combat pro controller scheme. Combat pro should absolutely be the default control scheme. It is SO much better when it comes to switching between inventory items or structures when building. I went from a medium speed builder to about as fast as you can get on console when I swapped.

There's probably gonna be an annoying learning curve (5-8 games of you getting spanked, then 10-20 of you kinda fumbling but being OK) after you switch but I promise you'll come back and thank me.

This kinda goes back to your C also. When this happens just have to try and slither out of the situation, usually via building. But yeah this is a factor.

I love duo too. I feel like it's the most balanced and fair mode.

Squads is too hectic and loot is too scarce.
Solos have a lot of luck factor.

I like that if you mess up/get unlucky in duos you can still get bailed out. If you mess up in solos you're out.

How can you play this game as much as you do and not use the combat pro layout?

We always land at those 3 also.
Just a theory but I feel like if you can make it out of those(the closest one to the initial bus spawn). You have a decent shot at winning.
Most of the high skill players seek combat so they jump there. So you thin out the skill level for the rest of the match when you finish them off early.

This has helped me a ton. I tried to play the long game for a while with little success. Landing in a populated area gives you good loot as well as gives you much more combat experience.
