The way BR's work is that most people are going to be trash. He could have hit a really good sniper shot that ended the person with the most skill in the lobby. Nothing the more advanced player could have done so now it opens up the opportunity for the lesser skilled players to maneuver.

I know that when watching replay sometimes, I look at the player base around me and see that I have at least 6 kills more than they do but die to some rockets or a lucky one pump, whatever. Does that mean that guy is better than me? Nope.

You'll start to notice that there are more bots in the game than you would think especially when you play higher tier pop up cups.

Also, I'm new to Fortnite so maybe it is frowned upon. But if it's late in a game, 5 ish guys left and a small map, is camping really frowned upon in that situation too?

Granted, I wouldn't camp literally just crouching in a building(again unless I hear someone coming and are gearing up for that.) Even late game, if I find a good spot to hide it's with the intent of scanning and finding an opponent, as I wouldn't hide like that if I didn't have a good view of the field.

I probably have 7-8 kills total in the month since I got it.

I don't play that much though, just with my kids sometimes, or if they can't get some challenge, and they ask me to do it, which is funny since I'm not as good as them...and they're 7 years old

I haven't played in a few days, but I've been thinking my new plan going forward will be to just drop in the middle of the busiest place or at least grab some weapons then head to where I know it'll be pretty busy, so i can force myself to have more battles and try to get better.

I just can't shoot or build quickly for shite, which is kind of the 2 most important things in this game.

close, imo. I think it's better to get in playground or creator and get extremely comfortable switching through guns and building stuff. Getting into fights early game are a bunch of RNG and not much skill involved unless you get lucky off the bat.

The way I would do it knowing what I know now would be to

1) go into playground and get accustomed to building a 1x1 and a ramp/wall rush
2) run around in tilted in playground mode and build to get places and generally loot the place. This gets comfortability to the controls without you thinking.
3) Once you are comfortable at building something, practice editing some stuff (corner of a wall, single square floor, ramp turns and splits)
4) Once getting use to that, jump into a semi crowded place like Salty or Dusty and practice those builds and edits overly killing people. Like it might easily be a shotgun shot away from a kill but go ahead and place a wall and try to do a window edit. Use the stuff you have been practicing. To many of us from the beginning rely on gun skill and don't build/edit enough. Someone new can capitalize on not having bad habits.
5) Be aggressive to opponents, most don't know how to react and defend properly
6) Take fights that you can come out of without taking a lot of damage or using a lot of mats.
7) Don't push stupid fights (storm pushing)
8) Learn to disengage

Storm pushing is when you have to run to the safe area and someone ahead of you sees you and tries to kill you instead of going to the safe area. Usually if you can kill them quickly, then you can move along. However, it's either terrible players that can magically one pump you, they have explodes, or it's a try hard player and no matter how good you are, they can make it a longer fight. Thus even if you disengage, you will either both die or both be terribly low in health.
