It's obvious to me they are doing this to make things interesting. Which it has.
When all is said and done the timeline won't be altered. It'll be fun to watch it play out

I agree. I wont go as far as to say they wont alter it at all, but likely not in the terrible ways people are thinking. I could be wrong but I just dont see it.

Here is what I suspect happens in parts 2 and 3.
-Zack is the leader of Avalanche
-There is a section where the number 1 is burned onto Clouds arm and you have to fight the rest of your party
-Zack sacrifices himself to save Aerith
-Aerith dies in the Northern Crater to save the world
-Sephiroth is the final boss in all three parts. You have to fight a Harbinger in part 2 as well (Harbinger of Memory)
-The final section of part 3 is split between 3 parties. Party 1 is Vincent, Yuffie and Red evacuating Midgar, each with a Turk in support, Party 2 (Main) is Cloud, Barret and Tifa, Party 3 is Cait and Cid, fighting monsters on the Highwind. Aerith is trying to burn Sephiroth out of the core.
-There is an epiloge consisting of a significant time jump.

dude in the Fallout 76 thread is comparing the shitty "release broken and fix later" method of game development to FFVII being broken up into a trilogy

Oh, but it could. Nothing is stoping them. They could have made it and released it all at once.
What’s wrong Carson, can’t afford to pay $180 at once for a complete game? Have to spread it out over a few years and save up?
Just like live service games, nothing is stopping them from waiting and releasing it all at once except wanting to capitalize monetarily.

I read somewhere that, when referring to Sephiroth's "seven seconds till the end" statement that it takes him exactly seven seconds to descend when he kills Aerith in the original.
Same place I read that it was Cloud who changed Zack's fate.

Roche wasn't in the original. The original basically skips chapters 4-6 and goes straight from 3 to 7.
