Even if I wanted to buy a Switch...

...the pricing on their games is hilarious and kind of insulting.
Was at walmart just now and I was blown away at how many games were still $60 and $50. Some of them I didn't know if they had just been released, so that I can kind of understand. But Arms is still $60? 1 2 Switch is $50? I get BotW is a "system seller" and still selling really well, but that's way overdue for a price drop. Every. Single. Mario. Game is still $60, even the Rabbids game. Splatoon 2 is full price, a game I figured they'd drop down in price with their new online service releasing.
Gardoki joked that it's a portability tax (or maybe it wasn't a joke), but I'd go broke just trying to build up the library. There's no way Skyrim and Doom should still be $60.
Nintendo honestly sees their fan base as a bunch of gamers who will hand over the lube and say "go ahead, I trust you".
I haven't had a good Nintendo rant in a while, so that felt good.

That's because it's true. Just look at the fools who bought 1 2 Switch.

Ironically, if all games just cost $20 I would spend a lot more money on video games than I do now.

This is certainly true, and the only true part.
The gaming market changed over the last 10 years and Nintendo hasn't really followed the process.....yet. It seems they are working on it.

The phenomena of games dropping to half price in under 12 months is pretty new, maybe the last 2 generations are so of VGs. The price pressure from that and indie games, is partially what drives the different pricing models - Namely now - a $60 game with multiple $20-30 expansion packs/passes, and/or a $60 game with optional in game buys and currencies. In these instances, because there are further monies to make, they drop the price much quicker and get people on the back end. Additionally, this model protects against used games to a degree, as, if nyou were going to wait for a used game, you probably would wait for the 50% price drop.
So yes, it's common for games to drop in place, quickly, as companies have alternative ways to recoup investments via in games and expansion packs.
With Nintendo, even when they do passes (and it's rare), they are very limited. XC2 had 2 packs small packs and 1 big expansion. Kingdom battle a few small ones. Etc. Splatoon, 1 paid expansion, and they've had some major updates to it as well.
There are no expansion passes or season passes for Mario Party, etc.
ARMs, which you mentioned, is ALL inclusive, including expansion content.

They don't artificially keep prices high because they are ripping customers off, they make far more conscious decisions about long term gaming costs than other companies. SPlatoon and Arms, in particular, had copious amounts of great updates with no in game currency to buy and no expansion packs.

I love posts like this which are well thought out and almost impossible to argue against because the Nintendo fanboys will always come in with excuses and the ‘Nintendo is the exception’ line.

Except the argument makes no sense, except for the old 3rd party ports. An the other fanboys spend more time thinking and posting on Nintendo than they do on consoles that they actually own. That's way more ridiculous than someone who actually likes to talk about things they like.
Nintendo, as a publisher, has no games with in game currencies/markets, and has very few games with large scale paid expansions or passes. No chests to buy.
It's quite clear why they don't drop their prices quickly.
And any 12+Month old port available on other consoles being $60 is a problem, but those have been coming with expansion content included sometimes, so it isn't so bad, but yeah that's ridiculous.

this is a true statement. i can't begin to tell you how many games i bought on steam during their big sales that i never even bothered to download. i have big mental issues when it comes to video game sales.

Does this mean we won't be minecrafting?

This is a weird Nintendo melt even for you. Why wouldn't games on a new system be 60? If you were to gripe about them being 60 too long I'd give you some slack but come on

Well namely because Sic and other don't view anything outside of maybe Zelda and Metroid as legitimate, $60 AAA games.

This isn't a brand new system. And I'm referring mainly to launch games and ones that have been out at least a year. It's rare that a game hangs on to that $60 price tag for that long. But it's almost nintendo's entire library.
There are people who don't have any other gaming system that won't think twice on this, I suppose, but for me, I can get Doom for $20 on PS4 and PC. I think the idea of playing that on the go isn't ideal, but I can see why people might like it. But $60? Regardless of the reasons Nintendo might have that Freauxzen spelled out for us all, it's not consumer friendly. At all.
I wouldn't mind owning a Switch at some point, but I'm not paying those prices for inferior versions of games I probably already own. So it would be a pointless purchase. For me.
And freauxzen, it's not about quality of game. It's how long these games have been out. Arms and 1 2 Switch are both over a year old. The Lego Harry Potter Collection, running at $50 on Switch, was initially released in 2010. Just.......frick that.

That's how any pc gamer feels about all consoles. Consoles give you the shaft big time when you can get so much free modding for pc games.

That might be fair, but do you remember the generations prior to this?
We didn't really see $20 games until two things happened in the industry 1) Backwards compatibility and ports 2) Games as longer investments - chests, purchasable currencies, passes and expansions.
Prior to that - Games were full price for 3-4 years. Final Fantasy 3 was like $70 up until the SNES was discontinued. And that had nothing to do with supply. N64 Games, Gamecube games, they only dropped to lows, years later and usually under some sort of "Nintendo Re-release" Banner, or something similar (same for PS games). the only other time they dropped in price was during some sort of retail sale. It wasn't a practice, like it is now, to drop prices by 50% in 6-8 months. That is new.
How is Nintendo supposed to drop the price of Arms when they were still making big new content until July WITHOUT any extra purchase from the consumer?

I think this kinda sums up my feelings about buying a switch. So the solution is easy for me in that I won't be buying games I can buy cheaper on my ps4 or xbone. The switch would just be purchased for the nintendo exclusives. Which I think is what most people do? I was hoping for a nice black Friday deal for the switch but there does not appear to be one.

I'm not saying they need to be $20 or $60. There's in between to play with.

Why exactly are they doing this? I never got the impression that the game got boring really fast. Honest question, is it a big seller?

Honestly, I would do it for that but I can't get into BotW, I played Odyssey on my friends switch, and it was fun, but I had no desire to go moon hunting after the end. I'll not be interested in a Donkey Kong game until they go back to 3D, and where's my Metroid?
I bored of Mario Kart a long time ago, and my feelings towards Smash Brothers is well documented here.

I mean then don't buy it? It sounds like it isn't meant for you or me. I'll just wait till a better deal comes around.
I beat BotW on a borrowed Wii U. I have only played Odyssey at a gamestop and it kinda brought me back to the Mario 64 days but I guess I would need to put more time in before I jump at a decision. Metroid could be cool but I think the last one I played was the first one that dropped on the gamecube. So no love lost there for me.
Smash bros melee came back to life for me when I lived with others during my college days. I finally played the wiiU one and enjoyed it but it's just not the same since I'm not living with others that will instantly jump on.

I always laugh at this term. Especially on this board.
Some people love Nintendo and their IPs and enjoy playing them. I have a switch. I love it. I do not care what console you own or play, I have no interest in Nintendo trying to directly compete with Xbox and Playstation via open platform non-exclusive games. I buy a Nintendo to play Nintendo games. I don't start threads about other platforms or complain randomly about something on antorhr platform that I don't even own and how it bothers me.
Some people hate everyone who loves Nintendo. I just don't get it.
You don't have to like Nintendo and Nintendo isn't trying to just be like everyone else. That's OK.
