She is very resistant to glinestone magic nd immune to rot and poison. The black knife shoots holy magic with a bleed effect. That is very effective against her. Any holy magic and with bleed effects hurts her.
I also agree you have to take advantage of her low pose. Most of these videos I see is people trying to finesse her. I took the opposite approach. I put on Radahn's armor and wielded Rivers of Blood. The first phase I went in an corpse piled her arse for the first phase; that did not work in the second phase because she becomes so aggressive. Also, I saw a guy use a shield to reduce some of the damage from the waterfowl dance. Unless you are going to learn and memorize every move like "let me solo her", I think on of the keys with her was to be super aggressive. You are going to take some shots and she will heal a bit, but when you are taking 700+ chunks out of her with each swipe of Rivers of Blood and back off, you make progress. There is a 7 move combo with corpse piler you can hit her with. 2x L2 give you a five move combo that end with a downward slash which staggers her and them move in with one more L2 for an additional 2 slashes. That took of 4000 HP in one move at the start of the fight and gets her past her first waterfowl move.
I think the trick is in the second half for us mortal players is to basically have her go ham on a summons and keep plowing her with damage when you can from a distance. That is why I switched from Rivers of Blood to Black knife in the second phase with Tiche. I just kept plowing her with holy/blood flame from the knife (L2). Tiche did all the close up work in the 2nd half, my goal was just to reduce her gains in HP she got from Tiche. It worked. Super aggressive 1st phase stand off with holy/blood weapon the second phase.
Also, blood files will interrupt her sequence, it does not stagger her, but cast blood files and when she runs into them, run in an plow her with couple of hits, back way off.

That’s kind of been my approach, and it’s probably just timing. It didn’t take me long to realize spell casting was a waste of time. Rykard, Alecto, and Fire Giant are really the only bosses I’ve had to get up close and personal with, and Malenia is just on a whole different level than them. Her speed and closing distance is pretty amazing. I will see how it goes today.

Depends on the build, if you have a dex build, I would go with moonveil or rivers of blood over a great sword.
But, my son beat her with the Moonlight Greatsword by doing exaclty what you suggest, he bulldozed her.

Do you guys know of a tool or website where you can input your current stats and see where you should redistribute for a preferred build?

Equip the main weapon you want to use and the go tinker at the academy. It will show you the different advantages. Then cancel, change weapons and go back in. That is how I did it. For example I equipped the black knife then zapped my intelligence and found the best balance for faith and arcane for the l2 attack. Then I canceled and equiped ROB and adjusted with str and dex for L2. Once I maximized those weapons, I dump everything in vigor and mind trying to get to the soft cap of 60. Then I equipped tals that raised my hp, fp and increased the power of incantations. Then I applied radian’s great rune for every more hp, fp, stamina. That was how I retooled for the fight. Also went with full Radahn armor to boost my physical damage protection and use the ram and physical negation tals.

It's a shame MugenMunkey didn't do a build calculator for Elden Ring, but I can understand why he was just too burned out to do it.

Thanks man, and thanks for the advice! It was definitely a long hard fought battle, but totally worth it. I think that’s the hardest boss I’ve fought in any game I’ve ever played

Round 2 and I have made it through the academy again. Seems like I missed a lot of the early game stuff the first time around. I am doing a lot of stuff different on purpose to see if I can get a different ending. So far,
1. did not kill tailor
2. took on bloodhound fang guy without assistance
3. killed a couple of rune bears the I did not last time
4. No following Ranni's quest this time
5. Will not give D anything from the hug lady
6. Will not give the poison to the jungle lady
7. Did not kill the guy at the prawn shack

Bosses are defiantly harder x2 once you hit the capital city. Everything is harder, up to that point, everything was easier.

Yeah, it really starts to ratchet it up. I’ve spent the last few days grabbing items for NG+. Have you started your next run through yet? I’m going to upgrade some weapons and buy some stones and probably start that path today.
