The final boss of the post-game is no joke. To beat him you're definitely going to have to spend a lot of time maxing out your gear and grinding 10-20 levels, depending on how low you are when you "finish" the regular storyline.

They provide a lot of side quests to buff up to do just that.

It's also completely open ended for the first time, there's a bunch to do all over the world and it's up to you to find a lot of it and the order to do it is up to you as well.

So i'm at like level 56. How much do i need to grind and do you have any areas that are good to do it

If you do all the boss fights throughout the world and gear/upgrade quests related quests, that will give you levels naturally.

It's hard to remember which areas have bosses to rekill or new ones so just gotta kinda go to all the town's and look for pink/purple dots.

After that it's up to you. Metal Slime Kings give most exp per kill but hard to find/kill. You can check beastiary to find exp per monster.

Apparently lvl ~70 is what I've seen to beat the last boss, while bring very geared

I'm trying to finish out as much as I can before the "big event". I have all six orbs.

Yes, nothing important is ever lost forever, however after act1 concludes you are locked our if some things for awhile. Everything will eventually be accessible again.

I'm really not liking all these quests and bosses that are like "kill with a certain skill" or "kill with a certain pep". It's taking the fun that I had with the first two acts out of it.

Like I can beat the enemy, but not knowing when I'm going to pep up or if this skill will be enough to kill him is brutal

Yes those are annoying. The best way to do them is to pep up the guys involved and sub them out. They retain the pep while benched.

I've had to grind a bit to conquer the final boss of the story (not post game). I think my party was 48-50 when I had my first attempt.

Got to the second stage where he turns into that dragon worm thing then wiped after awhile. I grinded to 50-53 and almost won. I'm thinking my party needs to be around 52-55 and he should go down.

You don't have to kill them with the ability. Just kill them having used the ability in that battle. Keep in mind that your pep doesn't go away if you're out of battle or if you don't use them in your main party.

There is a post game subquest involving Hendrick and Slyvando that actually does require the killing blows to be a certain pep power, but yes most of the quest ones just require you use it on the enemy during the fight, doesn't have to be the kill.

Finally 100% completed the game today, clocked in at a whopping 130 hours to do EVERYTHING (every trial, the wheel of harma, every quest, optional boss, all the horse races, anything of substance).

I did everything pretty dang leizurely so this is gonna be a high estimate. Most people who are 100%'ing are coming in like 100 or so.

Glad to hear everyone is liking it a lot. I'm around 40 ish hours, got all the orbs, and iirc my characters are in the mid-to-high 30s. Game is so much fun. Just about the only thing I don't like as much as previous games is the music. Wish I had gotten the PC version instead so I could mod the music to get orchestrated. Nbd tho.

This is one of the most common criticism of the game and a valid one.

The orchestrated soundtrack of DQ8 was so awesome and for most people in the West was the last time they played a DQ game. Apparently non-orchestrated music is the standard in Japan, the DQ8 Western release was a big exception.

The short of it is, the rights concerning all the Dragon Quest music is complicated, the composer pretty much has them all and he solely gets to decide everything regarding the music, not SquareEnix. The problem is he's sort of a crazy man and apparently also a huge a-hole. He apparently doesn't like orchestrated music in the games because he thinks people will be more likely to buy hte soundtrack seperately to get it, and he gets a much bigger cut of that money.

I don't find the music in DQ11 lacking because of the non-orchestrated aspect though. I think the issue is many of the tracks themselves are just not as good as past game. All the best tracks in the game are the tracks from previous games. Most of the new music is rather bland or generic. The composer is like 82 or something and he phoned in a lot of the DQ11 music IMO.

The biggest problem is the overworld theme. The overworld theme is normally one of the best and most memorable tracks and you hear it the most but it is absolute ear poison in DQ11. It's an extremely short loop and downright grating on the ears.

Outside of the overwolrd theme, the new music is serviceable. The tracks from prior games stand out as vastly superior and thankfully they are used a lot throughout.

I've just about hit 50 hours. I'm nearly done with the base game. No chance they're able to carry it on much past where I am.

Dragon Quest music is iconic, but I would be hesitant to ever call it "good." It really grates on me after awhile.

Traditionally speaking it's as good as it can be for what it is. Things like the overworld theme and the battle theme, you're going to hear them an absolute shite ton in a 100 hour game. There's only so much you can really do for the scenario it's going to be played in, over and over.
