Anyone else farms 1Ups? No way I could progress in Nightmare without extra lives.

Can't get past what I think to be the last arena before the Icon of Sin on Nightmare.

Just not good enough.

Edt: Beat it on Nightmare. Took 61hrs. Lol but got it.

Quick final thoughts.

Arenas being open feels great.

New fire + armor mechanic is great.

Story I loved, but did get in the way.

RPG like elements I loved, but could get in the way.

Platforming could be fun, but too many BS areas where some parts I was only able to make the jump once. Even after several attempts. It nearly ruined the experience for me.

Edt: Also a fun fact, did you know iD's office used to be in Shreveport, LA?

I went back and beat the gladiator on nightmare. proceeded to Taras Nabad where I struggled a bit. Archviles on NM are bullshite. That last slayergate was a doozy but I eventually got it. I'm at Nekrovol now.

I hope the difficulty doesn't continue to increase from here

Gameplay is exceptional. It's so engaging compared to other FPS. I'm just not a big fan of where the story has gone. Too much high fantasy, not enough gritty scifi like Arc Complex or Mars. I also think they made a grave mistake in not starting immediately after 2016. So many of us were hyped up over the idea of fighting our way out of hell again and getting back at Hayden. It was just too big a time skip with nothing explained save for a few codex entries. They really need to dedicate a DLC episode to bridge the gap, otherwise it just feels like a movie trilogy where we skipped the 2nd movie.

I also hated the flashbacks on Taras Nabad. Very cringeworthy and the voice acting was bad.

That was my assessment as well. Gameplay and combat all top notch. I actually enjoyed the platforms and puzzles.

The atmosphere and environments were not my cup of tea for a Doom game. Too much high fantasy. Not enough military/industrial locations. Overly complicated backstory and lore.

Flying around in a space ship shaped like a castle, meh.

Bouncing around through portals every level to dramatically different locations sorta makes things feel disjointed.

So ya, great game, the presentation is where I felt it was lacking what made Doom 16 so special.

they were too heavy-handed with the "Doomslayer = God" deal. in the first game you felt badass because of very small moments like when you see the people worshiping your coffin for 2 seconds, hear the slayer chronicles, etc

Here, they just went way over the top with it. those cringeworthy Elena Richardson audiologs, the countless codex entries about you, the ARC logs, yada yada. Not nearly as well-executed, just way too hamfisted

Yeah totally agreed. Doom Guy is better as a (mostly) human. They turned him into an unstoppable demigod known throughout the cosmos as this legend. It's just too over the top and actually makes him less of a badass really.

I didn’t know they were in Dallas until a few months ago when I accidentally walked into their building.

yep. my sister used to ride horses with Kevin Cloud's (former co-owner of Id before the merger) wife. He's originally from Shreveport

This is spot on. Kind of reminds me of how Star Wars ruined their lore by having to explain every little fricking thing as well (see midichlorians). There’s a lot to be said for leaving some everpresent mystery in fictional stories.

16’s unstoppable pissed off force of nature doom guy was cool.
Eternal felt like the devs just got into one drawn out circle jerk about how bad arse they wanted to make Doom Guy.

finished nightmare last night. Holy shite, the last 2 arenas on Final Sin were a doozy. I see exactly what Coyote was talking about, I was really doubting myself

final boss was pretty shite imo, took way too long

this game was basically the inverse of 2016

2016: Great beginning, shite ending
Eternal: shite beginning, great ending

Urdak was super cool.

Praying we get DLC that connects the 2 games

I almost quit completely on the last arena. Like uninstall the game type shtt.

Usually in arenas you begin getting overwhelmed midway but can work out, you find a rhythm. However, with the last one I was overwhelmed from the start and could never get a rhythm outside of chaotic.

Yeah I actually liked Urdak.

Spoilers

"I can now see.. I am.. The Father, Dr. Hayden?"

I kind of got chills during that cutscene. It was just tucked in there and could have been missed.

Yep, anxious to see where they take that. Seems like they're doing a little retconning. SH is my favorite character and want to see him in all his glory again.

this sums up exactly how I felt lol. It was pure chaos and I never felt like I was in control of things. After the Marauder I was like "ok im good" and then an archvile pulls up on me

I love Hayden as a sort of anti-hero.

Spoilers

I do believe we end up killing him in a future DOOM game. Did we leave VEGA on Urdak? I'm still don't know if we took him back after inserting him into the console.

And if you can't locate his first spawn point, just reload that checkpoint.

Edt: What I love about playing DOOM, esp on Nightmare, is that you feel your skills improving at every encounter.

It's like going to the gym or training in a sport. You feel the progression, the growth.

It is such a rewarding experience.

Agreed. You can really feel yourself improving throughout the campaign. It'll be tons of fun for us to play on the lower difficulties now

I missed 2 toys and 1 record on Urdak and whatever map had the souls extractor.

I played on Hurt Me Plenty and it felt like a totally different game. I didn't have to run around waiting on nade recharged as much.
