Only have completed the first mission. First mission was rather long for a first mission. UV is def. hard, I die almost at least once on every new major battle as I learn the lay of the land.

Game is much more "arcadey" in tone than the first game, if that makes any sense. The menus and map and systems and such.

Doom Guy also seems more prominent, like during the brief cut scenes they pull back to show you him doing stuff, so it's not just a first person view 100% of the time like it was in D16.

Yeah, I know. LINK

But you write well, have decent reading comprehension and understand most concepts.

Sometimes I think you are one of us, enlightened.

Game is also much harder than D16 as best I can tell. I was playing on UV but getting my arse kicked so much early I bumped it back down to HMP (normal), but parts of mission 2 are still f'ing me up even on normal. In D16 normal I barely died the first half of the game. So I think they def. upped the difficulty of normal. Seems to be much larger waves of enemies and some of the areas you have to fight them are not very large, it's difficult to run away and regroup.

There are just way more tools at your disposable in a fight now and they expect you to use them. You have a dash move, a flamethrower, your equipment slot, etc. The tough mobs have weak points you are supposed to exploit with certain weapons/mods. It's a much bigger juggling act and they really seem to be pushing you to use them all.

There's tons more vertical movement in general in this game too. They've cranked up your mobility a lot. You've got your double jump, with a dash move you can use twice, either on ground or midair, and pickups that can recharge it in midair. There's been sections of legit platforming thus far.

Idk how I feel about this, love the straight forward approach of DOOM 2016.

We will see tonight.

What are some MUST upgrade first skills/items?

The sticky bomb for the shotgun seems way more useful than anything else early on, it's effectively like a min-grenade you can shoot which sticks to things. Pretty much the only efficient way to deal with Cacodemons.

The only thing I'm not a huge fan of so far is the hub world. There is a hub world you return to between missions. Various stuff you collect stuff during missions unlock more parts of it as you go and you can access upgrades and view your collectibles and what not. The idea is fine but the hub world itself I find overly complex and confusing. Biggest problem is it all looks the same and the layout is bizarre and inefficient, redundant walkways all over the place and everything seems unnecessarily spread out.

Only 2 missions in so far.

Game is definitely harder than D16, I switched to normal difficulty early mission 2 because hard was brutal and I'm still getting chewed up in normal regularly. I've probably died as much to normal mob waves in missions 2&3 than I did the entire game in D16. The waves are just more dangerous, instead of the typical one big dude and a bunch of fodder, it's like 2-3 big dudes at once and even more fodder. The fodder also seems more dangerous this time. The solider dudes have little jet packs and can jump over obstacles making using terrain against them much more difficult. I'm getting the difficulty fix I was craving on normal that I was expecting on hard.

There are also way more demon types which is great, they're introduced at a much faster pace this time around, which is one of the reasons why it got harder faster.

Tons of environmental variety so far too. I'm 3 missions in and I've seen 5 very dramatically environments, 6 if you count the hub world. There's clearly more of a sci/fi and fantasy vibe this time around, less industrial/military, at least so far. So tons of variety in the world, although it makes it feel a little less "Doom'ish"

Shotgun being the default up weapon is jarring to me.

Isn’t there way to customize the weapon wheel?

I am but the constant need to chainsaw, move, grenade, and fire belch is intimidating now that they have limited your ammo.
