I have put a few hundred hours into Elite Dangerous and love it. I just found out about Eve.

What are yalls thoughts on the game? Reading about the depth of the player base has been very interesting.

I did the opposite, spent about a year or more in EvE as a month to month PLEX before they had Free to Play at all. Got tired of chasing lil red +'s on the radar screen and the drama. Dunno about now, but back then even the forums were pvp.

It was during the drunken Mittani threatening a guy in real life with having Goonswarm show up to the guys house. (Mittens was the leader of Goons then). One of the guys killed in Benghazi was in touch with Mittens and the Goons just before the attack and there's a shrine to his memory in game now.

Stick to new player faction till you really get the basics down pat before joining others. War Decs can ruin it early. But it can be a lot of fun for a while too.

My biggest gripe is the real life hours/weeks/months long training queue. Back when I did it they had just allowed chaining up to 3 skills to queue one after another but still just a single training at a time. Took literally 6-8 months to fly t2 cruisers. I did hella lot of Exploration in a stealth ship. Probably still have several months worth of PLEX cash in the game somewhere. Tons of ships from the out of game sponsored gambling website where u paid for ticket numbers and then RNG determined winner of the ships, the bigger the ship the bigger the ticket price and the more entries total allowed. (frigates were like 9 tickets max and the largest ships were like 300 tickets).

That's the exact reason I quit MMO's

-Once you get high level, you need raids and shite to progress.

-In order to get those raids, you need a top shelf guild. In order to be in the top shelf guild, you have to make time commitments,

-You have to be on from x o'clock to x o'clock

-You need to be mt or st or whatever for raids x, y, and z and help the lower kiddies progress to your progression level.

-You have to participate in all mandatory events and raids

So, in summation:

Having specific time requirements.

Having people in over me

Having to do a bunch of shite I don't want to do, in order to get what I want

Sounds exactly like a fricking job

MMOs are the ultimate podcast games so long as you don't take them too seriously.

Played Eve for a long time when it released. Too much time commitment to keep playing. Loved the game though. Even when it first came out it was beautiful.

I don’t hate myself enough to play EVE. I do have a few hundred hours in Elite.

Reading about Eve seems 100x more interesting than actually playing.
