I'm willing to bet there will be a tie-in release of a GL-based expansion with the GL movie next year though.
Thats fine I guess. I'm sure I will create hundreds of heroes/villains before finally settling on one to play the full game as

Some of it sounds interesting, but I'm all about player creation, freedom of choice in powers, the structure of PC development. And it seems there is very little info on this, which made me believe that wasn't a central part.
Same here. I absolutely LOVED the creator in CoX. I, quite literally, spent many hours creating costumes. I think the Sony folks know how much people liked that level of customization and I am willing to bet it will be similar in DCUO.
I have to agree that I too am curious into power assignments. I would have liked a little more choice in CoX, but not the wide-open approach in CO (it was just a bit too over-whelming with all of those powers). I like that the base power expands (like the explanation with fire where as you get more powerful with it that foes actually combust, explode, etc).
I'm also digging the physics of the game. Being able to freeze/hold/etc an opponent then toss/punt their asses across the field of battle sings to my gamer soul. I'm also digging the destructible environments and the ability to use items from the environment (MANY items, apparently) in combat.

Any other MMO, we would probably know max level by now. Whether the game is class or skill based, skill trees or available powers, skill progression, etc.
It just seems they spent so much time marketing "DC" that they haven't really done much else.
We can definitely agree to agree on that lol!

Eh, you could get a travel power by level 10 in CoH. And CoH's zones were all compact enough for it to not be a big deal. And they got teleportation right, that was awesome as power-inefficient as it was.
Yeah, but until then you were running around like an un-powered loon. Also, the two main zones (Gotham and Metropolis) are HUUUUUUUGE zones (something like 900 city blocks each, I think). Each city has its own sections that have their own feel (like the Arkham area in Gotham) and will be accessible by both heroes and villains. They've mentioned having full-on PVP servers and PVE servers (but even in the PVE servers there will be shared areas that will be PVP). Also, travel powers are taken into account as part of the balancing for battle (so you don't take a defense penalty for tossing around lightning bolts while flying).
With all of that said, this is a VERY ambitious game (especially with all the voice-overs and interactions) and I am indeed a bit biased toward it. If it falls on its face, I'm going to be sorely disappointed.

Agreed. But there's no way an unfocused MMO game can get every hero right. There's no topping Arkham or Batman:TAS on the SNES in terms of Batman games. Not happening.
Arkham City has potential to though.

--Whichever you choose you then choose an "Iconic" to follow (think of this as a mentor - for the heroes thus far we know of Supes, WW, and Bats while their counterparts of Lex, Circe & Joker will be mentors for the villains). These characters each have their own unique storylines (as far as quests/missions go), thus following Supes is going to give you a bit of a different mission than Batman. Also, playing a villain means you play the opposite role (in the demo'd mission, as a villain you HELP Harley capture Robin, in some missions you may play against other players that are playing heroes).
Why would anyone remotely sane want the Joker to be their mentor.

I think it would be interesting to see how they pull it off in a game

You answered your own question, only someone insane would do that ;)

Launch date pushed back to Q1
The good news is that Beta is opening up. For folks with VIP access codes, they can start getting in next week. For those that pre-order before November 15, they get in during the last week of November. Those that pre-order after November 15, they only get in the week before launch. From what I have heard, there will probably be no open beta.
