Is anyone here playing dauntless? My brother and I both just built/bought new gaming rigs and were having a great time.
It's pretty similar to Monster Hunter, the main difference being the monsters in this game are much more fantastical than the beast we were slaying in MHW.
Barstools1013 is my epic ID/PSN ID if anyone wants to get in on the action.

Do the monsters still run away with every fight?

I have only experienced them phase and run once per fight. If you match elements you can generally kill them during enrage before they flee. That's based on about 8 hours of game play. I will report back.
ETA: Weapons are also more simple but they still play really well. I am having tons of fun playing every weapon. I have not tired guns yet.
ETA2: I play on pc so i turned the DPI way up on my mouse to be able to perform better in combat. I imagine that consoles are played much differently.
ETA3: Games are much shorter. Typically 6-10 mins a game. You only fight one behemoth.

If 15 seconds to run find the guy is a chore, then this is not the game for you.
ETA: Key difference is the maps are MUCH MUCH smaller than MHW. There is one frost, ice, shock, and terra map so far. The chasing only last 5-15 seconds. Its more of a chance to heal up and reset.
ETA: Level 17 - Still no 2 run phases yet.

So this is basically deer hunter set to an RPG?

this game is great. I played it so much over the weekend

There is zero resemblance between this game and deer hunter. Well, you do kill things.
It's also a stretch to call it an RPG. You do level but it's more of a hack and slash than RPG.

Recording of me fighting Valomyr with Repeaters.
Ignore the bad game play but this video will give people an idea of the game. This is a Dire Patrol which lasted around 7 minutes.
I don't know why the resolution is so bad. It's recorded in 1440p.
You can see at the behemoth fled at about the 3:52 mark and I would have re-engaged in about 20 seconds if I wasn't bad and fell of the map.

To each there own. I love MHW and enjoyed the hell out of it but I think Dauntless gets all the things right that MHW missed.
The only think I don't like is not being able to fight more than one behemoth per game.

I get exhausted from MHW after looking at my inventory.
I played this weekend and got to lvl 12. The repeaters are by far my favorite weapon.
