Because shocker, it had an actual story.
Everyone has their own taste. If you like a game that has shite storytelling that's fine, but I'd be confident in saying that most people prefer a story that draws them in. DS doesn't offer that and is driven much more by gameplay.

I enjoy a great story. FF 9 and Last of us are my two favorite games because of their stories, especially Last of us.
FF 15 has a shite story. Very shitty.

Everyone should try out the souls games. They are different, but when you play something like that, it won't be liked by all.

Dark Souls' story and lore are far deeper than most games. Sorry you didnt read item descriptions or pull contextual clues from the environment/enemies. It's not shitty storytelling, it's just how they prefer to do it. There is an absurd amount of info to pull from what you're given, with just enough gaps for people to fill in themselves

Witcher 3 is a fricking masterpiece. Pre-orders and season passes are what ruined great games. The reason why the Witcher was so good was that the base game was more than enough content, and the DLC's just further enhanced it and were well worth the money. The problem now is these massive companies rip out half of a game and lock it behind a $50 season pass.

There are no maps, no hints. Nothing. You are thrown into this world and you just gotta figure everything out for yourself. You have to be very determined to play it, you will die a lot, but part of the fun is figuring out why you die and fixing it. It gets extremely addictive
Do not use walkthroughs. The game is best when you figure shite out on your own.

PS3 only. It's probably the 3rd best of the series (DS1 and BB being 1 and 2) and it's a phenomenal game. When they make a HD bundle of Demons and Dark for PS4, I will jerk off

None of the games ever recaptured the masterpiece map design of DS1. That is probably one of my two biggest disappointments with DS3, along with the horrific balance (PvE and PvP)
