This thread inspired me to pick DS up again. For the first time ever I'm playing a sorcerer and going all magic and using a morning star when needed. I've always been mostly a sword and shield knight style player so this is different. It is really tough at times to create space to cast magic on bigger enemies, and to also hit them and not their shield.
I think I remember reading way back that magic in this game makes it so easy. Is this true? Using soul arrow and heavy soul arrow so far and i can one shot most enemies.

It makes the early portions of the game a breeze, it can get a little more difficult later depending on your build and what lengths you go through for spells

Yes. Magic is OP as frick in DS1.
Most difficult boss is 4 Kings. Have a back up raw-infused weapon.

Last night I stopped after unlocking the door going down to the Undead Burg. Already fearing the Capra Demon and have no idea how I'm going to be able to cast magic on him.

I'm going to pick up DS1 again for an SL1 run once I finish the DS3 DLC

cast aural decoy as soon as you enter the fog gate. Dogs attention will be diverted and go directly up the steps.

I'm assuming I can buy that from the guy i freed in the Burg.

Thanks for this tip. I hadn't attempted that fight yet, can't image how awful this would have been without using the decoy. I had a hard time as it is using it but finally made it through. I couldn't even cast it before Capra demon would crush me so I just had to high tail it up the steps and block until the dogs would fall of the ledge, then I could cast the decoy.
Capra Demon never gets old no matter how many times you fight him. The dread and anticipation of going through that fog door.

Can you level up weapons on a SL1 run?

can you level up anything besides your character and their magic?

You can level everything except your attributes.

Those that have done a SL1 run, do you use a guide to get important items early in the game that will help or do you just go through the game like a normal play through?

Best early run quests involve maybe getting the rite of kindling or fire-infusing your weapon with the npc in the catacombs. Other than that, play as normal.

For me, I wanted The Rite of Kindling, Grass Crest shield, a fire-infused club and a +10 club before ringing the second bell.
I also snagged three firekeeper souls to reinforce my flask.
Before heading into the Tomb of the Giants, you need to have a divine club. Easiest way to get one is to downgrade the Occult club from Anor Londo.
Overall, it wasn't as hard as I thought it would be. That doesn't mean it was easy. If you want to decrease the difficulty, upgrade your pyro flame. Make sure it's at +10 before Blighttown so you can ascend it.

For my run I'm considering grinding for the jagged ghost blade. Thoughts? Might be too cheap... yeah?
